Got 7.1 successfully installed this evening without much difficulty once
I set the speed to my Plextor CD-ROM to asychronous. However, setup does
not want to install my Sound Blaster Live sound card. YaST-2 sees the
card as Creative labs CT 4760 SB Live and wants to configure it as
snd-card-0 but clicking next results in the message "An error occurred
during installation" and the finish option is grayed out. What do I need
to do to get this card installed. Also, when I run kmix, I don't get
the panel of sliders to configure the sound card; I assume this is
because the sound card did not install. Am I correct.

Hi,
Can anyone inform me what is technical background differences between
SuSE and Red Hat? What are technical adavantages of SuSE over Red Hat,
mandrake, Slackware, Debian?
Thanks
Andrei
hello all.
i am using SuSE 7.1 Kernel 2.4.0-4GB which runs well except for the
following problem i have encountered.
the system boots up fine and is generally smooth untill after some time,
when i try to run a command like 'ls' or 'cp', it returns 'Segmentation
Fault' and from then on i cant do anything.( eg if i try to login it
refreshes back to the "Login:" prompt after inputing a username) and i am
forced to reboot.
when i run 'top' i find a process called 'kapm-idled' taking up a lot of
CPU usage .. upto 90+ % ! and i cant kill it.
any one got any ideas on how i can over come this problem? i would really
appreciate it.
thanks.
George.
I seem to recall someone saying that if you can't merge partitions
(because you want to preserve data, e.g.), you can create a link
pointing to the new partition. How does this work exactly? I have
deleted an old partition and would like to have that space available
to my home directory. What should I do?
TIA

Hi,
I installed SuSE 7.1 this weekend, but I have problems getting Linux to
work with my Promise Fasttrak66 IDE RAID controller.
I mounted two 20 GB IDE disks on the controller - one on each channel,
and both as slaves (since else the cable wasn't long enough :p)
The card recognizes the drives fine, and I created a RAID 0 array of 40
gigs.
SuSE install, however, only sees one of the discs, and apparently not as
an array (since it recognizes it as an IBM <insert model no here>).
I went to www.promise.com where it says that rpms for redhat are
available - can I use them for anything at all ?
Any help available at all ?
Is it possible to boot Linux off the RAID controller ?
I assume I need to somehow recompile the kernel with support for the
controller, if support for it is not available via kernel modules.
Any help would be highly appreciated :)

Hi folks
I have a Mustek USB scanner which they've released a SANE package for.
My problem is that I can only get the scanner working as root. If I run it as
a user all I get is "no devices".
I have changed the permissions on /dev/usbscanner so it can be accessed.
The SANE site doesn't really help, and there are no SDB articles for this.
I'd look back in the list archives, but it won't let me in :(
Any help would be appreciated ...
Jon
