Actually.... Thats the way I have always had to do it....Why it happens that I can only guess at a security feature (I am taking a guess that it maybe to do with the video group 0660 and maybe not letting anyone outside of it attaching to the X process). I have little idea what has changed in your case...Did you run any updates? Its a security mechanism, do this in a in your terminal screen man xhost. Try my suggestion as I get the same as you do when I do not do the xhost command. X4.0.2 and SaX2 and Silicon Motion SM720 Lynx3DM

I've got an HP pavilion laptop with the above chipset. When I try to run SaX2 or xf86cfg the screen goes blank and I have to reboot to get it back. I'm Xless. Anyone know the trick for this chipset? -- Mark Hounschell markh(a)compro.net

Well said Eric!! I mean windows is slower and it crashes more but...in Linux you can't get anything working without spending days on it I mean...I still have a problem with my scsi emulator. And on windows you get the drivers but on Linux there are no drivers for many things(hp DeskJet 720c, Mustek scanner[LPT1], hp cd-writer plus 9200 [not scsi]..) Pit A. P.S that's why I have a dual boot system(when it has to go fast I take Linux. When it's something like printing colour or burning or scanning I take win98)

slow netscape 6

while trying to install Netscape six I could only put in, a couple of weeks ago, /home/me/netscape were "me" is my log on name . I just tried to reinstall Netscape 6 without "instant messenger" hoping it might run a little faster (every bit helps). it try's to put it in /usr/local/netscape it appears to go through the motions of a install of about six files but when I look in /usr/local/netscape/ the directory is empty. the readme file tell you to use or type in from the text mode ./netscape-installer but when I try this even less happens. the only way I can get anywhere is from graphical mode right click => netscape-installer (file) =>open with => run in terminal => OK. (beats me why test mode does not have OK (just joking)) If I could remember the code to send error messages from the screen in text mode into a error.txt file I could post this error message on the group I think it goes something like ./netscape-installer >~ error.txt or is it ./netscape-installer ~> error.txt I am looking forward to the days when my hours at Linux don't get converted to equivalent hours of frustration. and use Linux-computer as a productive tool.
