[SLE] Problem using WVDial in user...

Hi everybody, I have a problem when using WVDial in user mode. When I start it in a console, I get the message "Cannot open /dev/ttyS3; Permission denied". I can get over this by login in root and changing the permission with the command "chmod 666 /dev/ttyS3", althought it seems only to work for one session. Each time I shutdown the system, it has to be done again. Now, when I launch the program, it works but I get the following warnings: "Warning: Could not modify /etc/ppp/pap-secrets: Permission denied "Warning: Could not modify /etc/ppp/chap-secrets: Permission denied "CHAP (challenge handshake) may be flaky" Any idea about what might be causing these messages, and how it can be solved? Note that WVdial was installed through YAST in root mode. Also, I have seen on the WVDial web siste that there is a new version, 1.41, but the changes from previous version are not described. Is it worth the download and the installation? Here I currently uses version 1.40. [SLE] wvdial.dod does the wrong things

On my system wget doesn't invoke wvdial, which it should (no big deal, can always include wvdial in my scripts) BUT gtcd and tcd do, which they IMHO shouldn't. [SLE] Disappearing DVD

Hi I have a SCSI DVD drive as LUN 3 and a CDRW drive as LUN 4 on my system. However, since I upgraded to SUSE 6.4 the DVD is no longer recognized when booting Linux, so that attempts to mount it return an error that the major and minor numbers are wrong. The CDRW is still accessible. The drive is detected by the Adaptec 2940U2W card on boot, and is accessible to NT when that is booted instead of Linux. It therefore appears to be a driver problem - any suggestions on how to track down and cure this? [SLE] PPPOE Device Error

I am working on a Friends linux box that we are setting up for ham radio using the Internet Radio Relay Project Dev and software "http://www.irlp.net. The system is using cdsl and a Nortel modem, and PPPOE (yuk). And I am using RoaringPenguins client and not the one that came with SuSE. That seems to be working ok. Oh also running the DHCP client. When I boot Linux I get the following error just before we login in.... [SLE] Arkeia gripe/warning

Thankfully I checked the Arkeia documentation before I deleted my old harddrive. It seems that Arkeia has no way to read tapes without having the Arkeia genereated database files available. If I had deleted my old drive I would have lost the tape indexes rendering my backup tapes useless. It seems to me that any decent backup program should be able to re-create the indexes from tape if need be. I'd rather wait awhile for it to read the tape than to not have access to my backups! Their suggestion is to just tar up their config files on a separate tape because you will need those files for disaster recovery. They also say that they are working on a version of Arkeia where you don't have to do this. Thanks for listening.
