I sent a note in reply to someone else earlier about my PPP link staying up despite the default timeout in wvdial.dod being 180 seconds. What logs would I look at to see if my system is sending packets to my server, and thereby disabling the timeout feature of wvdial.dod? I am using a stock SuSE 6.4 configuration - so I have nothing explicitly turned "on" that I know of to keep my connection alive. In looking through the mail archives I see someone named "Clifford" had this same problem. [SLE] DNS not working

I seem to be having some problems with DNS. I have a DSL modem (cisco 675) on my system with eth0 as 10.0.0.1 My network card is set to 10.0.0.20 My gateway is 10.0.0.1, and I have my DNS set to the ip address my isp gave me. I can ping any out ip address I want to, but when I use Netscape or Lynx I get a time out and an error message that it can not find the URL. I can see from the hub that the requist is not even being sent. Anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to get this to work??? [SLE] Reiser FS problem reported on front page of rpmfind!

The following was clipped from the front page of rpmfind.net: >> On the software front I am using the journalling filesystem Ext3 . The machine rebooted 3/31/2000 after 129 days of uptime, so yes Ext3 is reliable ! However the reboot occured less than 2 days after I switched the drives (Maxtors) hoocked to the Promise33 IDE board from polling to DMA mode in an attempt to decrease the CPU load. Seems the IDE code still has stability problems under high loads, disabling all DMA transfers seems to cure those at the expense of more CPU usage ... too bad. I provide kernel rpms including Ext3<< I have BCC'ed both support(a)suse.com and @suse.de so they can be aware of this. (And not get a bezillion(sp) emails from the list). Hope they work with the person who posted this so the problem can be fixed. [SLE] Scanner Config in SuSE 6.4

Dear All After upgrading to 6.4 and sorting out the other stuff I have now turned to the scanner configuration. I've got a Umax S-6E with an Adaptec SCSI card that's AHA1542. When I first ran the setup with sgcheck and modprobe aha1542 everything went well. After starting xscanimage or xsane I get the following error message ....... "floating point error" I was able to run the preview scan but the error message came up when I did the scan to put the image into a file. Anyone suggest what to do with this ? My own suggestion is to use the 6.3 rpms and start again. Hello, Can somebldy please give me some pointers. I would like to use Apache as a proxy server. I can access the local web pages but it can't browser the web. I get the following error " client denied by server configuration" can any one point me in the right direction. [SLE] Acer Aopen FM56-ITU/2 modem and S.u.S.E

Hello, I just upgraded to SuSE 6.4 (which works great !) and I installed an Acer Aopen FM56-ITU/2 ISA modem ( I was told it worked well with Linux) Linux finds it alright, and it can dial out on it, but it won't connect to my ISP. I tried it with another ISP and it dosen't connect . I tried to get it working with setserial (setserial /dev/ttyS2 uart 16550A port 0x3e8 irq 4 autoconfig skip_test ^fourport ) till nothing. [SLE] Power Off on Shutdown

BTW, it's good to be back....been away from SuSE for 'bout a year while testing out RH, Mandrake and Caldera....ran mostly Mandrake, which distro has come a long way since the "just an optimized RH" days. A killer installer that other distros should really look at, and it recognizes hardware like no other distro I've seen: picked up my HP CDRW on setup, automatically appended LILO with "hdc=ide-scsi", did the necessary dirty work in /etc/fstab and modules files, and it recognized the second CD drive in the system properly, as a straight IDE drive. Not bad. The problem I have with Mandrake is on my Athlon box, where I think certain underlying optimizations made with the pgcc/egcs compiler tend to make things a little unstable sometimes. Not the kernel, but X Windows and certain X apps (most certainly Netscape, which simply freezes completely every five minutes or so). I look forward to the Full Mozilla (better than the Full Monty!!! <lol>), 'cause Mozilla M14 runs amazingly well on this Athlon box. I understand there is some Athlon optimization code in the 2.3.x kernels, so I hope to see that option in the 2.4 kernel. One little thing I miss coming back to SuSE, though, is how RH/Mandrake automatically shut the power off when shutdown is complete. This can't be a difficult option to enable, just haven't been able to find out which config file and which command to add to it may enable this behavior. What command would be added to the shutdown scripts that orders the BIOS to shut off the system? If anyone out there has done this, I'd be interested in the details. [SLE] SCSI scanner (Trust)

Dear List, Just purchased a new scsi scanner,it happend to be the only one in the shop and without checking to see if there was any support for the scsi card that came with it I find it does not work :) Any way checking the PCI -bus info I get this: Bus 0, device 10, function 0: SCSI storage controller: unknown vendor etc Vendor id=134a. device id=1. Medium devsel. IRQ9. I/O at 0xe000 [0xe001]. The card is a DMX3191 PCI Host adapter by Domex technology cop ver 000 and the scanner a Trust Scsi connect 19200 Has anyone come across this before and is there a work around for it or should I buy another card that is supported.
