Hello.
Will there be yast2 entries split off from the huge update-desktop-files po file? This will help to have Yast2 translated and don't miss few of Yast entries because update-desktop-files is so huge and thus mainly untranslated.
Why you think yast is more important than the other applications in the file?
I don't think it's less important, but if you have one po file with 7562 strings where are approx. 3000 untranslated or fuzzy no one wants to pick up and translate all of the strings, neither even touch it. And I would have rather fully translated entries in YaST2 control center than other entries in KDE/GNOME menu. What do you think users will appreciate more? Regards Ladislav.

Yes, please!

It certainly is more important. Very much so! When we translated the Yast branch we expected yast to display everything is Spanish, but this ws not so. We were told that some messages where placed instead in update-desktop-files. So I translated that lonnnnnng file, and after the patch was made and published, I learnt that the translations in update-desktop-files were not to be applied. That was a dissapointment after a month of work. So, yes, we are very interested in having the yast part separated, and posibly moved to the Yast branch. Yast is the single most visible program of Opensuse, and the most important of all. The rest of the messages I don't think are important. After all, lots of them are left in English, anyway...

Ok, I did a test. I commented out from the script the "split_chars" part, and added a few calls to also create the .po files. It appears to work alright: #split_chars 50-pot/update-desktop-files.pot #rm 50-pot/update-desktop-files.pot # #split_chars 50-pot/update-desktop-files-apps.pot #rm 50-pot/update-desktop-files-apps.pot split_out es/po/update-desktop-files.es.po es/po/update-desktop-files-yast.es.po "applications/YaST2" split_out es/po/update-desktop-files.es.po es/po/update-desktop-files-directories.es.po "desktop-directories" split_out es/po/update-desktop-files.es.po es/po/update-desktop-files-apps.es.po "/share/applications/" split_out es/po/update-desktop-files.es.po es/po/update-desktop-files-kde3data.es.po "/opt/kde3/share/apps/" split_out es/po/update-desktop-files.es.po es/po/update-desktop-files-mimelnk.es.po share/mimelnk I still haven't looked inside the files with kbabel, but they should be quite manageable. Thanks for checking!

I do not want to run the script on the PO files. I'd rather use the old and big update-desktop-files.LL.po as a compendium (translation memory) for initializing the new update-desktop-files.LL.po. Why, wouldn't the .po files be reliable? I suppose a update-po phase would clean out messages not related to the corresponding .pot file, and the memory method will leave us with 7000 fuzzy messages to review.
I think I can work on this the next days.

I agree. Making probably all messages fuzzy wouldn't be a good idea. Please use rather po file instead. Regards Ladislav.

This would not happen :)
Please use rather po file instead.
Probably, that's also fine. Unfortunately, because of the "insidious" check script installed on the server, we are not able to upload split update-desktop-files.LL.po ;-( We first must update the check script... -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-translation+help@opensuse.org

I would have finished this yesterday, but was blocked by the gettext on the server not knowing msgctx and only allowing "update-desktop-files.po" to be an exception. So we need to wait for the admins to replace gettext ;( Greetings, Stephan -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-translation+help@opensuse.org
