Hello,
I have written new HOWTO "Setup bluetooth headphones for openSUSE 11.1" [1]. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you.
[1] http://en.opensuse.org/BT_headphones#Setup_bluetooth_headphones_for_openSUSE...
The steps to probe and pair the bt device worked ok for me.
I was able pair a bt headset (one of those you use with your cell phone), the hcitool and bluetooth-applet worked ok and I was able to pair this device.
Thank you for the feedback. Could you hear the sound from your headset at this point before any changes to the configuration via yast were done ?

I changed my sound configuration to use pulseaudio via the Yast interface. My desktop is KDE3.
The step where you create an ~/.asoundrc file caused the audio to not play.
$ aplay /usr/share/sounds/startup3.wav ALSA lib pulse.c:272:(pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Connection refused
aplay: main:590: audio open error: Connection refused
The system log said:
Jan 24 14:18:09 omega pulseaudio[10480]: main.c: High-priority scheduling enabled in configuration but not allowed by policy. Jan 24 14:18:09 omega pulseaudio[10480]: core-util.c: setpriority(): Permission denied Jan 24 14:18:09 omega pulseaudio[10480]: ltdl-bind-now.c: Failed to find original dlopen loader. Jan 24 14:18:10 omega pulseaudio[10480]: main.c: Daemon startup failed.
To resolve this I removed the contents of the ~/.pulse directory in my desktop.
After that sound file played through the speakers.
This is working as expected except the problem with the ~/.pulse misconfiguration. If you start aplay without the -D switch the sound is directed to the default alsa device which is in this case the pulseaudio as set in the ~/.asoundrc.

When I tried to play the sound through the headset I got:
$ aplay -D btheadset /usr/share/sounds/startup3.wav Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/startup3.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo aplay: set_params:966: Channels count non available
--
The problem may be with the headset. However, bluetooth-applet does not give me feedback as to whether the device is connected or not.
This error says that alsa cannot found 2 channels to play stereo on the btheadset device. I am not sure what is the reason. This could be a question to the alsa guys. There should be native bluetooth support for the bluetooth devices in the pulseaudio 0.9.13 in the near future. cheers, vlado -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-testing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-testing+help@opensuse.org
