Excellent, I entered "nntp.aioe.org" in "server settings -> server name -> nntp.aioe.org (port 119)". I am able to now subscribe to view a very wide variety of USENET news server listings called (channels?).
you may need to ask to be allowed to post
1. Do you reccomend SSL or TLS by chance? Or Default port 119 should be adequate?
not sure it's relevant for nntp
3. I believe all these USENET channels are completely different than say IRC freenode channels then.
yes, very little in common
4. Are there more USENET channels by you using "free.fr" than if you were to use "Aioe.org"? Would you have a link for that "free.fr"?
each usenet server is allowed to choose what it want to share. My server is the one of my ISP, it's accessible for free but need to create an account, and I don't know if it's possible to non french people: https://subscribe.free.fr/accesgratuit/index.html an other free usenet provider: https://www.eternal-september.org/ jdd -- http://dodin.org

On public nntp, it is not, unless the server demands it.

Warning: there is some mad person around that pesters some groups by sending (automatically) literally thousands of posts in a day (with random garbage content). People have been forced to filter out some free nntp servers to survive the flood. Servers like aioe that do not require registration are frowned upon. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
