[opensuse-support] Okular Version 1.10.3 - question
HI I can quite happily print a small selection of pages from a PDF using Okular to a printer but it i try to do that but use "Print to a file (PDF)" instead of a physical printer, it doesn't work as i get the whole file again. Does anyone know if this is the way it should work i.e. not be able to select pages to print to a file or if its a bug / future enhancement? regards Ian -- opensuse:tumbleweed:20200803 Qt: 5.15.0 KDE Frameworks: 5.72.0 - KDE Plasma: 5.19.4 - kwin 5.19.4 kmail2 5.14.3 (20.04.3) - akonadiserver 5.14.3 (20.04.3) - Kernel: 5.7.11-1-default - xf86-video-nouveau: 1.0.16 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

It works here, but only one page range can be selected, like 4-65. The custom page selection option below it that would let you freely combine pages like 3,4-52,67 doesn't work and is greyed out. regards

Thanks for replying. The reason i wanted to select pages was i got a PDF that had a blank page between each page of text and i wanted to also split the file in half and exclude those blank pages. I've logged a bug 425076 just i case it can be changed. If you open the new file in okular that is created by the print, okular still uses the original file name in the title bar so a bit of work is needed. -- opensuse:tumbleweed:20200805 Qt: 5.15.0 KDE Frameworks: 5.72.0 - KDE Plasma: 5.19.4 - kwin 5.19.4 kmail2 5.14.3 (20.04.3) - akonadiserver 5.14.3 (20.04.3) - Kernel: 5.7.11-1-default - xf86-video-nouveau: 1.0.16 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

PDF Tool Kit is your friend. I use it to combine my downloaded bank statements and remove all the disclaimer rubbish on the second page(s). # zypper in pdftk From my notes: pdftk *.pdf cat output merged.pdf #Joins all PDFs in the current directory into a single file, merged.pdf pdftk merged.pdf cat 1-endodd output alternatePage.pdf #Removes all the even-numbered pages from 2016-17.pdf and rewrites to a new file, alternatePage.pdf It's non-destructive, so if you get it wrong, no harm done, and well documented in the usual man page. -- Bob Williams System: Linux 5.3.18-lp152.33-default Desktop: KDE Frameworks: 5.71.0, Qt: 5.12.7 and Plasma: 5.18.5 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

I have used it :-)
# zypper in pdftk
From my notes:
pdftk *.pdf cat output merged.pdf
#Joins all PDFs in the current directory into a single file, merged.pdf
pdftk merged.pdf cat 1-endodd output alternatePage.pdf
#Removes all the even-numbered pages from 2016-17.pdf and rewrites to a new file, alternatePage.pdf
It's non-destructive, so if you get it wrong, no harm done, and well documented in the usual man page.
GNU "gv" It is ancient, but one feature it has, is marking odd, even pages. Or you click which to mark; when happy, hit "print marked". Another is "save marked". -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

I'll give that a try. I still think okular should allow you to print selected pages when printing to file.

Thanks for the tips. regards Ian -- opensuse:tumbleweed:20200806 Qt: 5.15.0 KDE Frameworks: 5.72.0 - KDE Plasma: 5.19.4 - kwin 5.19.4 kmail2 5.14.3 (20.04.3) - akonadiserver 5.14.3 (20.04.3) - Kernel: 5.7.11-1-default - xf86-video-nouveau: 1.0.16 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
