[opensuse-support] Firefox does not start in latest version of Tumbleweed (x86_64)
* Freek de Kruijf
When I start Firefox I get a small window in red with:
Anybody seeing the same? Solution? I tried reinstalling MozillaFirefox, which did not help.
Giving the command firefox in a terminal starts a proper window with Firefox on the desktop.
do you have kmozillahelper installed? are you running kde/plasma5? -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

On both questions: yes. -- fr.gr. member openSUSE Freek de Kruijf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Hi there,
I'm affected too, running plasma and mozillahelper installed.
rm ~/.mozilla/firefox/addonStartup.json.lz4
No such file or directory!
I have to run firefox in safe-mode to get it working.
cheers

if running in "safe mode" appears to work correctly, try with a new profile. Perhaps you have an add-on, theme or extension which is causing your difficulty. firefox --ProfileManager -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks. With me it was: ~/.mozilla/firefox/xdy2otnk.default-1511106383155/addonStartup.json.lz4 So a "find ~/.mozilla/firefox/ -name addonStartup.json.lz4" revealed this file. But if I remove that file, it starts without add-ons, thus making the browser unusable for me... :-( -- Vojtěch Zeisek https://trapa.cz/ Komunita openSUSE GNU/Linuxu Community of the openSUSE GNU/Linux https://www.opensuse.org/
addonStartup.json.lz4 located and deleted, now firefox startup is fixed.
Thank you.

I renamed it just in case and now i've got another copy of it in the folder and everything works (from another update i guess), now i've deleted the renamed file. -- opensuse:tumbleweed:20200717 Qt: 5.15.0 KDE Frameworks: 5.72.0 - KDE Plasma: 5.19.3 - kwin 5.19.3 kmail2 5.14.3 (20.04.3) - akonadiserver 5.14.3 (20.04.3) - Kernel: 5.7.7-1-default - xf86-video-nouveau: 1.0.16 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

I'm seeing some other things: - Firefox won't launch, but the master password window will show. Just this window though, no FF - Trying to launch FF a second time works, I didn't have to delete the addonStartup.json.lz4 file

It must've been something else, I never got the window with the error message in red and my issue was fixed by starting in safe mode once. Very weird...
