Thanks Andrei for the clarification. So the conclusion = It is not possible to configure opensuse.org e-mail address as alias in GMAIL as of July 2020 due to the change in Google terms. Google is no longer allowing us to send e-mails using non-GMAIL domain aliases from our GMAIL address.

You are trying to set it as a mail account, but it is an alias to your previously existing mail. So, suppose you have your email "s....@gmail.com", and suppose you told the openSUSE guys to point your opensuse alias to it, and let's assume it is "a.....@opensuse.org" That's the first step. Then, you tell Gmail to accept sending email from FROM: a.....@opensuse.org which is what Luiz explained. Then you have to configure your mail client to send email as "a.....@opensuse.org". For example, I use Thunderbird and postfix. Receiving is easy, you get it directly on your "s....@gmail.com" account. The difficulty is differentiating it. There is no clear header for it, IIRC. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Care to explain how to do it? Assume we are all stupid dummies.
which is what Luiz explained.
No, he did not.
How come? I see it in his pastebin. https://paste.opensuse.org/2813146 "Send mail as", then "add another address" that's what I did years ago. There was some authorization form, but I'm not going to mess with it again and risk breaking it to obtain a photo. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

That's not "sending e-mail from gmail with another From address", this is "using gmail SMTP server as relay". Yes, it is possible, but to my best knowledge Google automatically rewrites the From line of any email you send via its SMTP server to the default Send mail as email address in your Gmail or Google Apps email account Settings. Which rather defeats the purpose of sending using different e-mail in the first place. I do not have a second account to test (or better I do have but they are using an external SMTP server). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

Hello All, I get following error = https://paste.opensuse.org/36757885 I tried changing ports, Allow less secure apps: ON in my Google account is set, tried to change connection method. I use web based version of GMAIL. I don't use any email clients. As per the reference links shared by Andrei, I guess Google has changed it's terms. And with that regard, it is no longer possible to RELAY emails over Google's SMTP server when the alias is from another domain i.e. non gmail address. Regards, Amey.

Google automatically rewrites the From line of any email you send via its SMTP server to the default Send mail as email address in your Gmail or Google Apps email account Settings.
Which rather defeats the purpose of sending using different e-mail in the first place.

You can not use "send emails trough your SMTP server", because there is no such server.
I tried changing ports, Allow less secure apps: ON in my Google account is set, tried to change connection method. I use web based version of GMAIL. I don't use any email clients.
As per the reference links shared by Andrei, I guess Google has changed it's terms. And with that regard, it is no longer possible to RELAY emails over Google's SMTP server when the alias is from another domain i.e. non gmail address.
What I have is: On the webmail I hit settings, then all settings. Then I go to "Accounts and import." Going down a bit, I see: Send mail as: Carlos E.R <.....@gmail.com> default edit_info learn more (1) Carlos E.R <.....@opensuse.org> make_default edit_info delete Carlos E.R <.....@users.sourceforge.net> make_default edit_info delete add another email address When replying to a message (*) Reply from the same address the message was sent to ( ) always reply from default address (currently .....@gmail.com) However, I do not see in the webmail the manner to change the "From". If I hit "edit_info" in the section above, I get a yellowish window that says: Edit email address edit information for .....@users.sourceforge.net Name [Carlos E. R. ] .... [*] Treat as an alias. Learn more (2) Specify a different "reply-to" address (optional). The "Learn more" (2) link points to https://support.google.com/a/answer/1710338 "Learn more" (1) links opens a pop-up. Ah, I can expand it to a window, it is https://support.google.com/mail/answer/22370?hl=en Playing on the reply box, I suddenly got my from changed to my alias in the webmail. I don't know how I did it. Let me try again. Hit reply. Hover the mouse over the "To" field on the pop up, then click on the "o Got it. Click on the To address, which in this case is "oS-sup". I then get an expanded header: Carlos E.R <.....@opensuse.org> with a drop down lists to other aliases. To oS-SUP However, the message to which I'm replying was sent to the list (did not arrive) from ".....@opensuse.org", so the clause "Reply from the same address the message was sent to" is hitting. Note: that email sent from the webmail has not arrived yet at the list. List problem today? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

OK, so Google allows you to send mail on behalf of arbitrary person as long as you authenticate as Google user. That makes sense as it means each mail is traceable so no anonymous spam is possible. Huh? Oh, I did not see it. Sorry. It has "smtp.gmail.com". username "....@gmail.com". TLS. I sent a test email to Patrick some hours ago, got no reply. Maybe he is busy. Now I just sent an email to myself on another account using my oo alias (with Alpine), it worked. But first I had to reconfigure my other account, because my postfix sends them internally. I also sent another one using the webmail thing, also worked. And I sent another test email to myself using Thunderbird, nothing yet. Weird. I see the post in Alpine, but I do not see it in Thunderbird! :-o Now it shows, but zero bytes. Reload the inbox... ok. That's my ISP, has problems with IMAP on this account. Still, the emails I sent to the mail list using my alias do not appear on the mail list. Not even on the list archive. Maybe I'm not susbscribed (nomail) with it? But got no bounce. Weird. And while I was doing this, one of my hard disks crashed, and I had to reboot with hard reset. Second time it happens, perhaps a month ago. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. There is no openSUSE.org SMTP mail server
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Members_mailaddress#Sending_email
https://webapps.stackexchange.com/questions/66228/add-new-alias-to-gmail-wit...
This post (second try) should arrive at the list using my o.o alias, sent from Thunderbird, and postfix with a gmail account. You write: smtp server: smtp.gmail.com username: "....@gmail.com". TLS It may ask for saved passwords, I did not go there. This is apparently new, as it is only needed when using the webmail. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)
