Tumbleweed 20211223
Just noticed when trying to play a youtube video on firefox that I no longer have any sound. I see that pulseaudio is now pipewire but that does not mean much to me. It does seem that sound have failed very recently, last several days.
speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav fails
speaker-test -c8 -l5 -twav -D plug:surround71 provides "Front Left" and "Front Right" from my attached speakers
speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav -D hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1 provides "Front Left" and "Front Right" from my second display (TV).
the system tray audio speaker button displays a diagonal red line indicating mute but mute is not selected.
does this provide information which will help solve my provlem?

you got it, I knew *nothing* about "wireplumber" ...
systemctl --user status wireplumber.service

started and again have sound.
wonder why it didn't automagically start? or why it stopped?

It is new and replaced the media session service. On one of my two TW istallations I had to start and activate it manually too. No idea why one out of two...

but, the systems I checked had obsolete libjack0 installed rather than pipewire-libjack-0_3 and one had sound, not the other

As reported elsewhere I had no sound in 15.3 after recent update. Installing pipewire-alsa fixed it - no need for pipewire-pulsaudio or pipwire-libjack-0.3 (neither of which are installed).
And systemctl --user status wireplumber.service yields:
"Unit wireplumber.service could not be found"
yet sound still works. Curious.

Wireplumber just barely replaced pipewire-media-session on Tumbleweed, I highly doubt that they've changed that for 15.3.

Thanks. I made an assumption I shouldn't have. For now, I'm just happy to have sound back by whatever means - the explanations can wait.
