Meantime I'll try my hand at a chroot and mkinitrd.
It worked! Happy, happy, happy!!!!
Thank you Andrei and Carlos for your help in digging me out of a hole I'd made for myself. Much appreciated.
Carlos, I'll think for a bit on your further recommendations, in the context of preventing recurrence - an "abundance of caution" as they say.
If you do "ls /boot/efi/EFI/" you should get three directories, besides "boot" or "opensuse". If you don't, you still have work to do. Telcontar:~ # ls /boot/efi/EFI/ auxiliary boot main-os Telcontar:~ # I have two systems, thus two directories. And, I must be able to see it on the UEFI (BIOS) boot menu. Check: Telcontar:~ # efibootmgr BootCurrent: 0003 Timeout: 1 seconds BootOrder: 0002,0001,0003,0004,0000 Boot0000* main-os-secureboot Boot0001* main-os-secureboot Boot0002* auxiliary-secureboot Boot0003* UEFI OS Boot0004* auxiliary-secureboot Telcontar:~ # I see I have a problem, because it is trying to boot first the auxiliary, not the main. Telcontar:~ # efibootmgr --bootorder 0000,0002,0001,0004 BootCurrent: 0003 Timeout: 1 seconds BootOrder: 0000,0002,0001,0004 Boot0000* main-os-secureboot Boot0001* main-os-secureboot Boot0002* auxiliary-secureboot Boot0003* UEFI OS Boot0004* auxiliary-secureboot Telcontar:~ # I will have to check later if it is correct on next boot. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E.
