I would like to be able to read "alt.os.linus.SUSE Busy Group". I went ahead and disabled pop3 and imap in GMX after enabling it.

Thunderbird is simply not connecting to it.

I need to enable outgoing server SMTP maybe but there are no default options. -> https://ibb.co/qR8JY2p

I believe this is what I must configure perhaps.

Bedtime here and thanks :|

(Which is IMHO a bad idea....)

If you prefer UI overloaded with advertising and tons of external scripts
running, go ahead.

I doubt that GMX provides access to Newsgroups - at least I could not spot it
on the web frontend.

I used to have a separate News provider - party the network provider has a
news server running

Or do you talk about Mailing lists as 'Newsgroups'? They come as normal mails
into your mailbox.....so just use SMTP and IMAP to fetch mails with
Thunderbird
