I did provide one for the email and double checked multiple times. Then I noticed the following email message from my provider in inbox shortly after my initial email. ->

You have recently attempted to integrate your GMX mailbox into an email programme such as Outlook or your smartphone's pre-installed email app. Unfortunately, this attempt was not successful. We believe the possible reason for why this occurred can be found in the details below.

The POP3/IMAP/SMTP protocols which are required for email programmes are deactivated by default for safety reasons. This is to prevent unauthorised persons from accessing your mailbox via POP3/IMAP/SMTP.

The protocols will also be deactivated if you have set up your GMX mailbox for use in an email programme before, but you have not used it for a long period of time.

To use this function, you must set up the protocols or reactivate them in your mailbox settings. You will find step-by-step instructions in the GMX Help Section.

Otherwise, we recommend using the GMX App for iOS or Android.
This application also offers direct access to your mailbox. It does not use the unsafe POP3/IMAP/SMTP protocols.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Your GMX‌.‌com Team

I am much more concerned with using Thunderbird for Newsgroups initially since I have never done that before.

I don't want to be off topic here if I am. Is it more secure to just continue to login to my email provider through my webbrowser?

Thank you
