Firefox does not play H.265 videos

Something seems to be wrong with my openSUSE Tumbleweed Packman codecs. Yesterday my Firefox 105.0.1 (from mozilla repository) was unable to play H.265 videos (in *.mp4 container) at all, I could only hear the sound. Today I fixed some codecs in YaST ("switch system packages" to Packman), so that packages like libavcodec59 now are from Packman (was openSUSE). I installed the missing packages gstreamer-plugins-bad-codecs and gstreamer-plugins-ugly-codecs from Packman. But still, I can only play some H.265 videos in Firefox. E.g. the MKV H.265 video https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3-obtCH8dE8V0NXdi1Jd3NrNkk/view?usp=shari… (from https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples) plays well. But my H.265 videos in MP4 container from my smartphone still do not play in Firefox. They play in VLC and MPV, so the codecs are installed. But Firefox still needs an unknown dependency to play H.265 in MP4. I did not found good documentation about this topic. kmail - no longer able to send emails

Hi Last night i sent a few emails successfully, went off to have some food (left it logged in), came back 30 mins later and could no longer send emails. The message i get is: "Failed to transport message. Connection lost to server host" The ISP was working fine as i could use the browser interface and send emails fine. Any ideas where i can look? I did go to the settings and check the "Sending" config and it all looked fine, i also did "Auto Detect" and it got the details ok. Printer confusion

Well, I've got 15.4 going well enough (all updates installed) to try to tackle printing. Years ago I bought a Canon ImageClass MF 5950DW, which is not directly supported by OpenSUSE. I don't give up easily, SUSE does not support my printer directly. But I found: https://printerdrivers.com/canon-imageclass-mf5950dw-drivers-download/[1] which are (supposedly) drivers for linux. (sorry, but the file is copy protected so I can't copy and paste from it) Anyway, it says: "When you have downloaded the particularly needed software, connect the printer" ...and here I don't know what the "paritcularly needed software" is, because they don't say. So, any help will be appreciated. newer firefox ESR LTS release 102.3.0 for current leaps at last?

apparently there are no more releases for the old and dated ancient pre-102 ESR of forefox (and thunderbird).... <https://wiki.mozilla.org/Release_Management/Calendar> when will 102.3.x and newer appear for leap 15.4? as there are CVE on firefox even for ESR 102.x.y when will opensuse leap folks get these updates and fixes? ty

Hi, AFAIK openSUSE does not tun its own SMTP server, so if one wants to send a mail he has to use a different (ono-oS) SMTP server. This leads to issues, as one smaller mail provider uses means of sender authentification (see below) in between. How can we deal with these authentifications when using a o.o address? Package Update Indicator stops to work

Zypper dup in TW got interrupted, now zypper dup cannot find the old shared library libboost_thread version. The current version has already been upgraded, as all installed libboost_*. How can I determine which other package(s) hasn't been upgraded yet, resulting in calling the old libboost_thread version and zypper failing to run? *zypp* & *curl* are already upgraded. Hi, I was notified about an issue when trying to verify the downloaded ISO image: In the checksum file there is a different filename (although the checksum itself is correct): openSUSE-Leap-15.4-DVD-x86_64-Media.iso The downloaded file is: https://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/leap/15.4/iso/openSUSE-Leap-1… This is unconvenient up to confusing for a user. Does anyone know what the reason is and how we can prevent this for the future? Cheers Axel

Installing new GTK Theme changes DE aspect just partially

Hello, I have a doubt to clarify regarding the window aspect after installing a new GTK DE theme, in fact the theme seems applied only partially to the desktop windows. The main window and settings get changed by new theme's style, while some apps as for example Thunderbird, Firefox, Xfce4-terminal, and several others, are not. What this behavior depends by? I received this notice from my email provider, and the maintainer of my email client (Trinity Desktop) tells me that the version of TLS that it uses depends on the version of SSL that is installed in my OS. I checked with zypper, and what is currently installed is | libopenssl1_1-1.1.1l-150400.7.7.1.x86_64 | openssl-1_1-1.1.1l-150400.7.7.1.x86_64 What he said might not be completely accurate; I see that I see also that | libgnutls30 which contains | libgnutls.so.30.31.0 is also installed, which makes me wonder why my mail client is still using TLS 1? Do I need to install | libopenssl3-3.0.1-150400.4.7.1.x86_64 | openssl-3-3.0.1-150400.4.7.1.x86_64 to make the client use TLS 3? AFAIK this is a long-standing problem. The files can be downloaded under two names - one with build number, one without. The checksum file only supports one filename for the checksum so it works only for one filename. When the download link points to the filename specified in the checksum file the checksum can be verified easily. Thanks Michal

Tumbleweed: how to recover from a botched zypper dup

I have an old AthlonXP system that I decomissioned three years ago. It turned out later that just an SATA cable needed replacement. Today I tried to update to the latest Tumbleweed using zypper dup, which initially went well (if slowly), but then it hit the installation of filesystem, complained about missing lua triggers and admonished me that I would need a rescue system. Nothing in /usr/bin works anymore, although the (old) kernel boots until the first time it needs a shell for something. I do have a rescue system on USB from that time (actually a net install for Tumbleweed that I used to install the replacement system with), but it runs into trouble: the available shell prompt does not seem to offer a chroot command nor zypper and clicking past the language prompt will blink caps and scroll lock on the keyboard for about a minute and then reboots (perhaps it tried to mount the botched filesystem?). I'm not even sure a chroot would work since the filesystem isn't set up… Preferrably I could somehow use zypper (or rpm) to use the already downloaded package and target the failed installation (with --root /mnt or something like that). Is there a way to do that? Thunderbird and Firefox refuse to open existing profile after upgrade 15.2->15.3

Hi, Yesterday I upgraded my sister's system from 15.2 to 15.3 After that, both Thunderbird and Firefox refuse to open te existing profiles. Gives the message "You are starting with an old version of <Thunderbird | Frirefox>". Which is an odd messages, because one would expect TB and FF to be newer, not older, after the upgrade... Running Leap 15.4--fresh install (not from an upgrade) with KDE desktop. Day before yesterday, I got a "software update notice" for 13 updates". Looked them over, and said OK. Upon starting the update I got an error: "the installed gtk3-branding-openSUSE-15.0-lp154.1.9.noarch requires 'libgtk-3-0 = 3.24.31', but this requirement cannot be provided ". It was late, so I put it off. Then, I read the thread about problems with these updates...and that they problems were being worked on....so I didn't worry. Today, I got a "software update notice" again but this time for 21 updates. I thought to myself that I'm glad that they fixed the problems, but the update errored out again with the same message: the installed gtk3-branding-openSUSE-15.0-lp154.1.9.noarch requires 'libgtk-3-0 = 3.24.31', but this requirement cannot be provided. If I deselect the offending package, and restart the update, it does not happen. Is tere a way to work around this...or do I wait? Thank you, Mark -- I used to be indecisive. Now, I'm not sure.

I fail to understand the concept of updates on opensuse in general - current and speedy update process?

Support, I seriously fail at making sense of the sincerity and honesty of the opensuse update process: e.g. todays wpa_supplicant update. this update came along as a patch. so to my understanding the the recent explanations or discussions on some opensuse lists or bugreports, patches were supposedly for security trouble, to be applied immediately in speedy manners. something like that. patches would get applied with the yast online_update script ind cron.daily or cron.whateverly folders. when looking at this changelog i read about february and may 2022 the latest entries. the compile or build date is from june 2022. and when i look at my calendar I read that we are being in september 2022. just what the heck. seriously. how can this be a patch. how can something from may, be compiled in june, and be released to us opensuse users in september? this is just the recent example of my findings. other serious stuff is for example widely adopted (?) firefox browser for example. even though it being the LTS release of firefox or ESR its called, opensuse takes like one week and longer to push serious security updates that are being released by mozilla and world wide, until it reaches an opensuse user for example. or was it even longer this last time with firefox on 15.4? you get the idea. i find it really a shame that we are being regarded of such low priority. are normal suse customers as well waiting months or weeks for patches or security updates? i wonder about these ties to SLE(s) or whatever some (many) packages rpm and updates come from, are they binary identical to the suse customers and are they waiting the same amount of time? are these packages really compiled only once for both the opensuse leap and the SLES customers and then rolled out to both audience at the same time? opensuse is really stretching the limits here. my opinion. i am not pleased with the state of opensuse in the recent years. not at all :( ty

[TW] Different file/folder sort order in GTK and KDE

I am running Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma. I have noticed that KDE apps sort folders above files, which I like, whereas GTK apps sort everything alphanumerically.
