WTF?!? I originally thought there was a noexec problem on /mnt/Raid1md, but it also doesn't work from /usr/local where the cleanup script DOES work, so that's out. I have a problem updating tumbleweed (now for 2-3 weeks): After a few minutes of updating zypper as well as yast update stops for some time and resumes afterwards the updating again. In this way an update of 400 files takes a few hours. Hi Axel, I should have enough space in the root partition, I did the clean up, however for now there are not enough files to update to check zypper. It only happens if large files or more than 20 to 30 files have to be updated. I checked the error number which gives me: EAFNOSUPPORT 97 Address family not supported by protocol which may refer to some ipv6 problem. I have been bombarded with requests to abandon TW and use Leap. Well, I have installed it on a drive in another computer, and it seems quite familiar, but now I have to populate it with apps that I use and like. The first, of course, is Thunderbird. Is that hiding in some repo that I don't know how to access, or must I find it in the wild and bring it home to roost? Someone said I should keep a diary--I don't disagree, but any approach to a diary for me is bassed on being able to print to paper and punch the paper and put it in a binder. Note the word "print!" As an example of what I don't have printed out, I think someone here told me how to access all the built-in repos. I will need that right away so as to install as much as possible from natively stored versions of the apps I want to use, before going to the wild. I will, of course, refer to section 7 of the Leap "manual" to try harder to install the printers, but just trying cold- turkey yields nothing. Can't find a printer. Both are turned on. As it seems there are no upgrades for Leap, how do I install Artha? [opensuse-support] Slow shutdown - "stop job running for /run/user/<user_id>"

Hi all, For some time I've been seeing shutdown delays of up to 2min 30 sec on Tumbleweed. The system reports, "A stop job is running for /run/user/<user_id> min:sec (counting down)", where min:sec can be anywhere up to 2-3 minutes. Once this timer runs down, shutdown proceeds as normal. If I log out of the desktop session first, then log into a VTY session as root and enter "Poweroff", shutdown takes less than 10 seconds. My guess is that there is a race condition going on with some process still holding a file open in /run/user/<user_id> (whcih is a tmpfs file system, when the system is attempting to destroy it, but I have been so far completely unsuccessful in identifying what that could be. I've even tried enabling a debug terminal session on VTY9 but that's given no clue, either. How should I go about debugging this? So far, I don't even have enough information to raise a useful bug report (if one is even justified, given that it could be a local config issue rather than something systemic with Tumbleweed). Hi, I just DUPed my TW system (from 20200906->20200916). During boot I could see some red lines, and indeed I get [FAILED] Failed to start Apply Kernel Variables. (first time this happens, following the logs). Was trying to upgrade my OpsnSUSE-Tumbleweed, version 2020-0826, which is the install disk I have and used to create this system. I'm trying to install two printers, for which I have .ppd.gz files. The printers that apparently exist in TW dated 2020-0826 are mostly obsolete. There is nothing listed for Epson at all. It seems that in a previous generation of TW, there was at least a listing of my HP printer, and someone on the list pointed out where it was, but the Find Files app cannot find any other listing now. (There is only one HP--a color laser.) I need to install an HP LaserJet Pro M201dw and an Epson WP4530 all-in-one, including the scanner on it. Hi, I am trying to play local sound initiated from remote shell (vnc and ssh). Imagine using headless PC connected to speakers. Can someone point me in the right direction as to what prevents the local audio devices being visible in vncserver on leap 15.*? All I see is dummy sound output device and I cannot make any sound through that. [opensuse-support] LEAP 15.2 - journald and udevd won't start after last update

Hi *, yesterday I updated one of my LEAP 15.2 machines. The machine rebootet into maintenance mode afterwards, but I wasn't able to do anything, because the keyboard also wasn't functional. There were error messages on the console regarding systemd-journald and systemd-udevd, which both failed to start. I was not able to recover from this situation, except by recovering the machine from the latest backup. Afterwards everything was back to normal - the machine came up as usual. I then retried the update and saw, that systemd-journald and systemd-udevd even refused to restart during this update. So I have a running machine now without those services, but I suppose, it won't reboot any more as before. Both services gave errors like this: Main PID: 18098 (code=exited, status=228/SECCOMP) Is that only my machine that shows those errors? I didn't read anywhere here in the lists about a problem like that. The internet, though, lists a few occasions, where problems like that happened. Any idea, what to do besides recovering again and don't update for a while? TIA. Bye. Hi, all -- I had occasion to reboot today after updating (side note -- I would LOVE it if I could say "no, I don't want to reboot just now, so let's leave out those updates this time" *sigh*) and once again had to hit Esc to dump the splash screen and actually see the boot progress. Yes, I'm an old-school text guy :-) Is there a [presumably] GRUB config that will skip the splash and stay in text mode until login time? The person, the user, that is seated at the machine (the server in this case) who has an open and active desktop session. That user gets permission to use sound, video, cdrom, etc via policykit, I understand. The display manager (gdm, whatever) handles this. I have had, in the last couple of days, a couple of incidents of system paralysis, where lights on the k/b flash, and the cursor disappears from the screen. This is on a "desktop" computer (that actually sits on the floor) that is only a couple of months old. Checking the temperatures with zypper shows the cpu temp is reasonable. I have installed hddtemp, but it wants a name for the ssd: linux1:/usr/sbin # hddtemp Too few arguments: you must specify one drive, at least. I used to be able to set this up 'relatively' easily, now i can't at all! Wanting to watch netflix i want exactly and all of what i see & hear on my laptop to be seen and heard on the TV (fed via an AV-tuner/amp into which the other end of my hdmi csable plugs). As it is, I cannot see results on the TV until i plug in the hdmi cable, but once i do, then the kde pagers shrink to unreadable size and the mouse shows on the TV only where there is only a partial duplication. (i use two vertical panels, one on each side).
