Hi, I found, that these two files have "strange" permissions on my 9.1 system: -r-xr-xr-x root root /etc/hotplug/usb/openct -rw-r--r-- root root /etc/hotplug/tape.permissions I think, that the following file-permissions are more reliable, than the above defaults: -rwxr-xr-x root root /etc/hotplug/usb/openct -rwxr-xr-- root root /etc/hotplug/tape.permissions Is it worth to modify?! Thanks, Peli

What is "strange" about them?
I think, that the following file-permissions are more reliable,
Reliable in what sense?
-rwxr-xr-x root root /etc/hotplug/usb/openct
You can edit files as root in any case, even if it not set +w. Why would you want to edit that file anyway?
-rwxr-xr-- root root /etc/hotplug/tape.permissions
You can execute that file via sh /etc/hotplug/tape.permissions . It should be called through SuSE's hotplugging system, anyhow. It provides for a function, without calling any command, though. Execution without "sourcing" would be senseless, as far as I can see. If you have a point about executing the file, do so. But why would you want to set it +x for the _group_ root?? It seems to me you might consider reading a little about file permissions.
