Mr. Meissner -
Thank you for your email on the upgrade.
Er... this is a mail list, many people the world around can read and reply ;-)
When I upgraded in place (not a fresh install) to openSuSE 15.1 as the native OS (from 15.0), I ran into problems with a virtualbox installation, ultimately losing the entire system and doing a complete reinstall. Upgrades in place on two other machines without virtualbox went smoothly - no issues.
The problem may have been due to the presence of virtualbox or my use of the btrfs file system, but perhaps some other cause - an error on my part.
Based on a post on the virtualbox forum, I learned that one fellow successfully performed the upgrade and I've inquired about the details. I did not find anything else relevant on either the openSuSE forums or after a search of the web.
Are you aware of any issues I should consider? Any advice you might have would be greatly appreciated. There are two other mail list where you can ask those questions:
users@lists.opensuse.org support@lists.opensuse.org About your question, I successfully upgraded from 15.0 to 15.1 about a year ago, and from 15.1 to 15.2 weeks ago on this computer, where virtualbox is also installed, no problems at all. I don't remember of big issues. You have two main web pages on the upgrade procedures (there are two methods): https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade (zypper dup method) https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Offline_upgrade (dvd method) Somewhere it recommends you make a full backup prior to the attempt, just in case. You should also check these pages: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Most_annoying_bugs (empty for 15.2) https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Release_Notes --> https://doc.opensuse.org/release-notes/x86_64/openSUSE/Leap/15.2/ -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E.
