[opensuse-project] Linux Tag 2011 in Berlin?
Hi Folks, I heard there is a openSUSE booth at the LinuxTag 2011 in Berlin, but I don't find a Wikipage. So I made one. :) http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:LinuxTag_Berlin_2011 Please add your name in the list if you want to help or organized the booth and add details of event. I would like help out at the booth. The only problem is the expensive accommodations in berlin. Are there good experiences from recent years? Looks like we should organize this properly :D I know in the last few years some openSUSE people have organized attendance to Linuxtag, I guess we should make sure all openSUSE people end up in the same hotel (or we rent some appartments?) etcetera. I will add my name, if everyone who wants to go can do that, we know how much space we need. And we can then arrange for a single location for all of us, SUSE employees and volunteers. Good idea? That also means that the SUSE ppl also have to put their names in this wiki page or they have to sleep under a bridge ;-)

There was http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:LinuxTag2011 (without real content) which I just changed to redirect to your page ;-)

Basically you have the choice between a) near the trade fair - and expensive b) somewhere[tm] in Berlin - and more or less cheap (ask your favorite hotel search engine) c) be accepted for a talk and get a sponsored room in the hotel paid by LinuxTag c) is the best way ;-) but obviously not available for everybody. Additionally the LinuxTag team is usually a bit late with the notifications if a talk is accepted or not. That's understandable given the amount of talks they receive, but still annoying. (The LinuxTag CfP says that there should have been a preview of the conference program 2 weeks ago...)

All openSUSE people at the same place sounds like a good idea ;-) (Often the hotel price depends on when/how early you book - therefore we should decide on this as soon as possible.)

I would like it. BTW: Experience has shown that the hotel bar (or a nice bar/restaurant/whatever near the hotel) is a very good place for talking, ideas etc. - especially past midnight... [1] Just a small note: IMHO the IBIS hotel (where the SUSE ppl usually are) is quite expensive (see "a)" above). So if the decision is to have everybody there, please take this mail also as sponsoring request from me ;-)
That also means that the SUSE ppl also have to put their names in this wiki page or they have to sleep under a bridge ;-)
That might be difficult - Berlin is quite flat and doesn't have too many bridges IIRC *g* Needless to say that I just added myself to the page ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz [1] guess where the idea for my wine talk came from... -- Die Software soll die Menschen im Netz formen? javier an I searched for a cheap hostel. We found the Hostel A&O Berlin Hauptbahnhof. A room for six persons. 10th - 15th May incl. shower/toilet for 750 Euro or 125 per person. But! This is only cheap if we have six persons. Same price but there have a room for four persons. 500 euro or 125 euro a person. In the meantime I got a notification from LinuxTag that c) is an option for me :-) Funnily they chose the "Hotel Gates" and I'll give a talk about wine [1] together with Marcus. Sounds like enough pun, even if it was probably not intended ;-)

Looks like several people prefer bridges - until now we only have 3 persons listed on http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:LinuxTag_Berlin_2011 I'll be in Berlin from 12th to 14th and, given the vast responses ;-) on this topic, I tend to stay in the speaker's hotel. Upgrading the hotel room to two persons is quite cheap (IIRC 10 € per night), so if someone wants to share a room with me, please tell me. (But note that this is only possible for the two nights from 12th to 14th.) I'm still open to the idea of having all openSUSE people in the same hotel if we can decide on it quickly. (LinuxTag expects the hotel reservations for the speaker's hotel until and of march.) Regards, Christian Boltz [1] similar to my talk on the openSUSE conference, including the wine tasting - but this time in german -- wodim is based on a cdrecord from September 2004 with additional bugs added by Debian and with the DVD support code ripped off and replaced by something that works on weekends wit full-moon. To date, only three of us are on the list. I do not think there are more. I would accept your offer (if still possible), but it would be unfair to Jos. Jos, have you looked at the hosteloffers, what I mailt last week? Nice. :D Do you find a good bridge or you have a hotel / hostel until now? ;) Greetings Jan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Nice. :D
Do you find a good bridge or you have a hotel / hostel until now? ;) Actually, I wouldn't necessarily need one, as my parents live in Berlin's eastern outskirts. Nonetheless, I'd like to join if we find a Hotel near the venue. -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Sascha Peilicke http://saschpe.wordpress.com

Yep, I prefer it too. Ok, I know we have quite a few people who will give a talk at Linux Tag Berlin. Many of these will probably get a few nights in the LinuxTag Hotel, so it probably makes most sense to all gather there. We, as in Novell, can book for you if you put your name in http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:LinuxTag_Berlin_2011 before next Friday. Otherwise it is up to you. Of course if your boss can pay or if your rooms can get paid by LinuxTag please take that - it saves us money which can be used for other ambassadors etc... So sign up to have fun with the rest of us :D Cheers, Jos
