RE: [opensuse-project] vote for suse on the eucalyptus poll
Stephen, As Pavol Rusnak mentioned earlier, all of Eucalyptus' target distros are handled by the Build Service. Surely we should be trying to convince them to use our service and enlightening them that by doing so enables them to have maximum reach with minimal effort. I've actually talked to them about that. When I get a chance to package more of it, I'll try to redo it in OBS. Stephen

That would be awesome... It doesn't seem like it would be terribly hard; I just don't have the time to put into it. If you want I started a project and can add you? Stephen https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=home%3Adecriptor%3Aeucalyptu... I started it with java, but I think I read that it works with openjdk. Ok, you are added. I'm not sure what state it is in though. Also I'd recommend installing from source to get a feel for what's going on. They do provide spec file, but they need some work. Stephen On Tue, Mar 31, 2009 at 10:39 AM, Pavol Rusnak <prusnak@suse.cz> wrote:

The OBS may be useful for distro's running within a 'cloud'. Personally I had thought KIWI would be of considerable interest. Some questions I had: Q1 Can other distros can build their EC2 images using KIWI Q2 Given you have to upload an AMI to EC2 and I assume Ecalyptus, co you upload an AMI from the OBS. I suppose it'd be useful to to have some 'aerial overview' of how OBS+KIWI+EC2/Eucalyptus can/should work together. Mark

Search for yast-product-creator on the wiki - it has a neat overview of howto build install media and (non-ec2) images using Kiwi in the background. More fascinating is studio.suse.com You may find the screen cast on the body of the page won't work (openSUSE 11.0 FF 3.0.8). Instead try select the screen cast link at the foot of the page - that may work. Most fascinating was the report that the software stack you build into an images can be designated as 'supported', i.e a customized SLE. If you build an 'unsupported stack', instruction may be given about what you need to change to have it qualify. See here: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10148796-16.html Point that at EC2 and openSUSE could go from 0-more pretty quickly. Mark
