[opensuse-project] tumbleweed mailing list creation?
Hi all, Is there anyway to get a Tumbleweed mailing list started? Or should I just post Tumbleweed-specific stuff on the Factory list (as I have been doing recently)? thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

IMHO, Tumbleweed fits fine in Factory list. Separate list will just remove Tumbleweed from focus of its primary audience, people that like the newest software, but need stability. Support can be in general support opensuse@opensuse.org list. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Fair enough.
Support can be in general support opensuse@opensuse.org list.
Ok, but I'm staying away from that list, others will need to provide that support there :) thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
Hi Greg, hi all, What include the content of /etc/SuSE-release in package openSUSE-release for Tumbleweed? How can I identify openSUSE Tumbleweed in future via /etc/SuSE-release? For example (64-bit): # cat /etc/SuSE-release openSUSE Tumbleweed (x86_64) For example (32-bit): # cat /etc/SuSE-release openSUSE Tumbleweed (i586) Or prefer another content? -- Kind regards, Sebastian - openSUSE Member (Freespacer) Website/Blog: http://www.sebastian-siebert.de Important notes on openSUSE Mailing List: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Mailing_list_netiquette -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Right now, nothing.
How can I identify openSUSE Tumbleweed in future via /etc/SuSE-release?
Why would you want to? What is that going to accomplish?
For example (64-bit): # cat /etc/SuSE-release openSUSE Tumbleweed (x86_64)
For example (32-bit): # cat /etc/SuSE-release openSUSE Tumbleweed (i586)
So, what would the VERSION field be in this file? And again, what use would this be? What tools use this file? I think it should stay as-is as the "base" is still 11.3 (right now) and will be 11.4 in the future. Again, think of Tumbleweed as "just another repo I added to my zypper list that happens to have a whole lot of updated packages in it". thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Just write to admin@opensuse.org that you want one, if you want one :) My personal opinion is that you should stay on factory. We already have too many lists. Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. Ok, let's stay on factory for now. thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
Perhaps you'ld consider a low noise Tumbleweed-announce at some point,
once it's bedded in and you're happy to have end users, who wish to
keep the email bandwidth down and are less development oriented, so
want to stay off factory?

Wouldn't the package upgrader take care of popping up a notification when there are updates in the channels ? That'd probably be too much for kind of user who just want's a fresh stable system and avoid dramatic breakage.. What list would the user subscribe to, to get important announcements without a load of other noise? There is an openSUSE announce list, which probably can be used. http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-announce/ -- Sankar P http://psankar.blogspot.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

I wonder if I should post these there, I'll try that next time. thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

Yes, it will, but that's a bit different from the status report I sent out yesterday, right? That explains why some packages are being updated (like the yast2 stuff), as well as a general "state of the repo" type thing. thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org
