Welcome to the openSUSE family. You can find information about the different email lists and how subscribe to them on our wiki: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Mailing_lists_subscription Regards, Matthias -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
Hi, Matthias, Thanks for your help, I subscribed opensuse-project list now. I noticed that I should be invited to join a organization(openSUSE) in github, Could you or anyone in this mailing list with admin privilege do it for me? Thanks, Liang On 9/29/17 4:07 AM, Matthias Brugger wrote:

I personally only was added to the project when I needed access to it (in particular when a project I worked on became an openSUSE project[1]). As with OBS submit requests, all requests on openSUSE projects should go through pull requests (if they're on GitHub) so having maintainer status (or member status) there shouldn't be urgent either. Also I believe you need to be an openSUSE member[2] first, but I could be wrong about that (not that becoming a member is difficult, it's actually very simple). Yes, you are right, it just needs privilege requirement. Unfortunately, we do not have it in our team. Dominique just invited me to be a member, so all set for me. Thanks for your help. Best, Liang

The correct way to request this is via open build service, from [1] you need to click the "Request role addition" link and request to be added as a "Maintainer", if you would also like all the bug reports to be assigned to you, you should then request to become the "bugowner" as well, generally the bugowner role will go to the lead maintainer but in many cases the maintainers work this out between themselves. 1. https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/Virtualization/qemu -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B

Richard Brown recently asked maintainers not to directly modify dev projects anyway and to use SRs instead, so as long as there are one or two active maintainers to accept the SRs, you shouldn't need to urgently get maintainer status. If becoming a maintainer of qemu on OBS is a goal, my normal approach is to branch a package to my home project, and use that to issue SRs to the dev package. Then in the comments of one of the SRs just ask to also have maintainer rights. If at some point you need project maintainer rights, then the "Request role addition" option is the only option I know. Just to clarify - I meant to convey that it's generally good practice even for explicit maintainers of a devel project to use SR's in order to collaborate with the rest of their devel project team Therefore, like Greg says, a new contributor shouldn't need to urgently get direct maintainer access Once the current maintainers of a devel project get to know a new contributor and have established a common way of working, I expect they will quite happily add you as a new maintainer, in order to help review those SR's from everyone and help improve their bandwidth there. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

And what does "explicit" mean in "explicit maintainers of a devel project"?
