[opensuse-project] News from the chairman
Hi fellow Geeko-lovers, I'm coming to you with some news: due to some changes in my life (pretty good news, you'll hear about that in a couple of months), I've decided to step down from the chairman position of the openSUSE board. I'm stepping down with regrets because these two years as chairman have been totally awesome, and I would love to keep contributing to the project that way. But I know I won't have enough time to dedicate to being a chairman in the months to come, and I'm a strong believer that board members (including the chairman) should be active in their role. Having motivation is extremely important, of course, but free time is simply essential. It's been a fantastic experience to work with past and current board members (Henne, Manu, Will, Raymond, Bruno, Richard, Andrew, Robert and Kostas). Things are obviously not perfect, but I still feel we've made good progress: even though what the board is up to is not always visible from the outside, I do hope that the minutes of the regular board meetings help with this, and that concrete improvements such as the booth boxes or the local production reimbursement program help illustrate the actions of the board. All that doesn't mean you can't help the board :-) (for instance, don't hesitate to suggest ideas for hackathons!) In case there's any doubt, I won't be simply disappearing. I'll just find new ways to contribute to openSUSE in the free time that I will still have. Of course, we've been working on a transition and a new chairman has been appointed already. But I'll leave this bit of news to the openSUSE board... I can only say that I'm fully convinced that the new chairman will rock! :-) And that I'm confident that the current board is pushing in the right direction! [A BIG LOSS for openSUSE - an opportunity for a new chair]
Dear Vincent, It was a great decision of SUSE to appoint you as the chair back then and it is certainly a great loss. Your way of approaching things is unparalleled; you certainly made it hard for the next chairman to live op to the standard set by you. But I am sure SUSE will, in the collective wisdom, ensure the best possible candidate will be appointed again. I can't but wish you all the best in your private life, ensure you set your priorities where they have to be. Should you ever feel lonely or be overwhelmed with spare time: you know where to find us. You won't lose your green blood that fast. Best regards, Dominique -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
Hey Vincent,
I wish you all the best. You surely are an inspiration to me.
It has been honour to work with you.
Thanks a lot for giving each of us the opportunity
Cheers
Manu
