[opensuse-project] Test/Doc volunteer needed - Upgrade to 11.4 via yast2 wagon
All, I have tested yast2 wagon for upgrading from 11.1 => 11.2 and 11.2 => 11.3 Unfortunately I've been too busy to do so for 11.3 => 11.4 If someone could test that I think it would be great. Also, the wiki page: http://old-en.opensuse.org/Wagon needs to be moved to the new wiki infrastructure assuming yast2 wagon still works. And then finally, the wiki page: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade#Running_the_Upgrade Should have a reference to the new wagon page. In the old wiki, it was covered via: http://old-en.opensuse.org/Upgrade/Supported#Graphical_tool_2 A volunteer to make all that happen would be great. Chuck, I meant I tested Yast wagon 16 months ago with 11.2 was released and 8 months ago when 11.3 was released. But I've been too busy to test it for the 11.3 => 11.4 migration path. So that is all that needs to be tested. And assuming it goes well, documentation updated to reflect that. I don't know what waggon will do, but if the work is what is said in the wiki page, it don't seems worthwhile changing the repos from 11.3 to 11.4 and making zipper dup makes a perfect shift from a simple 11.3 to the same 11.4 that said, I only tried this on virtualbox and with a rarely used 11.3 jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

What is not worthwhile? Testing and doc? The tool was developed for SLED service pack updates and I assume will be supported for that use regardless of what openSUSE does. So openSUSE is just leveraging wagon for a more "GUI" based update. It offers little functionality not already in the: update repos zypper in zypper zypper dup process, but it is more graphically attractive. no, using waggon like it's now

in fact, not so, changing repos like it's explained in the wiki is common to the two ways and one have to add waggon. It could certainly be enhanced. after all, waggon have only use to get a new distro, why clicking on a distro name shouldn't it be enough to have all the steps done? (clic on "11.4" and voilà...

don't see this. May be it's really a doc problem. How is managed the applications change (may be it's what "dup" do?), for example hal->udev or the updater applet change? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-project+help@opensuse.org

I admit to using zypper dup myself, but I'm very command line comfortable.

Fully agreed, vote for this if you like https://features.opensuse.org/310405

Not sure what your saying, but wagon will first upgrade the yast/zypper software stack, then upgrade the full distro. But you have to manually update the repos before you start it.
