openSUSE Team,
I'm Craig Gardner (ganglia), and I hereby announce my candidacy for the openSUSE
Board.
I am a SUSE employee, and I have really enjoyed working at SUSE for the past nearly-four
years. My primary responsibilities at SUSE lie within the OPS Services team, where I
provide expertise with the Build Service and with managing the sophisticated engineering
infrastructure. I sit on The Attachmate Group Security Committee. Prior to working at
SUSE I worked at Novell helping to put Open Enterprise Server onto SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server. My blood is very green, although I also have long, extensive experience with
other distros, too, starting with Slackware back in 1996.
Within the openSUSE community, I have participated on the Review Team and been a package
maintainer for a handful of packages such as MuseScore and perftools. I keep a stack of
openSUSE marketing materials in my office, in my car, and in my home, ready to distribute
to friends and strangers alike whenever the opportunity presents itself. I have
represented openSUSE at dozens of events, large and small. In fact I helped staff the
openSUSE table at the SUSECon event in Orlando, Florida, in November 2014.
My interest in participating on the openSUSE Board revolves around these principle goals:
A) Improving the visibility of openSUSE among the huge variety of distro offerings that
exist. Specifically, improving the amount of press and exposure of openSUSE to offset the
over-represented exposure that other distros receive.
B) Promote openQA, and make it the bedrock of quality assurance for openSUSE. Improve the
confidence of the community and the public in the quality of our great product!
C) Support the improvements that have been incrementally made over time by prior board
members, building on their successes.
Vote for me on 13 Jan 2015!
