[opensuse-project] FOSDEM Wrap up regarding oSC
Hi All! Here is a little update on all the topics discussed past weekend at FOSDEM: - Entertainment for the conf We have invited Awesome Retro to provide us with their amazing vintage computer game machines, this will no doubt provide a great challenge to all participants trying to battle each other in Prince of Persia, Streetfighter, Tetris, Pong and many more great games! - Some more talks Radically Open Security will do a talk about their open source business model. Markus Feilner will do a talk about open source and media relations. Brenno de Winter (famous Dutch research journalist) has also confirmed to be present and to do a talk about the necessity of open source software in a free society. - Lock picking workshops Security is obviously a very urgent topic and not only in the digital realm! At the CCC conf a German minister got her fingerprints copied from hi-res press images, and we will offer something at least as scary/interesting. Did you know that you only need a picture of a key to "hack" a lock? Well, come and see! - Organizations invited We (Robin and myself) have spoken to GNOME, KDE, Tor, Diaspora, FSFE and many others to invite them to the conference. We are working with LibreOffice to get a joint devroom as well. - Joint openSUSE and Kolab dev room We all love having our data under our own control and Kolab offers you just that: email/calendar/file-storage it's got it all! But what would be even better? Let's try to integrate the Kolab setup with the Yast mailserver toolchain! Yast already offers quite a lot of useful features to work with Kolab (LDAP user management, firewalls, webserver, etc), the next logical step would be to tighten those warm relations even more and in the meantime improve the Yast mailserver component. - Cyrus IMAP server 3 sneak preview and dev room We have just received preliminary confirmation that Bron Gondwana (one of the lead developers for the well known Cyrus IMAP server) will also attend both our conferences (Kolab Summit and openSUSE Conference), and he'll probably bring friends! So what would be better than sitting down with them in a dev room to work on Cyrus IMAP servers' openSUSE offerings and look at the great features in store for Cyrus 3. - LPI Exams Have been confirmed to take place again at the oSC. Possibly we will also be hosting LF exams. And besides all that goodness, we also had a very nice social at the Cafe Belga, it was great to see you all. Some more news, last week I attended another conf (phpBenelux in Antwerp) and spoken to quite a lot of speakers about our conference as well. I've got some very interesting talks confirmed: - Ansible (an alternative to Chef and Puppet) - Docker Security (by the person who writes rkhunter) We are still looking for speakers and we really want your help there. Don't forget to register for the conference at http://conference.opensuse.org. More to come! Wow, that's an impressive list of talks, workshows and other activities! I'm looking forward for oSC :-) Some travel-related questions: - which train station should I choose? - at which time will the conference end on May 4? For the train station - bahn.de found a night train from Karlsruhe to Utrecht Centraal, then (after switching trains) to Gouda and from there it's another 20 minutes ride to Voorburg. Does this sound correct? Is Voorburg the train station next to the venue (well, with a bit walking)? I'm asking early because train tickets tend to be cheaper when booked early ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz -- PostfixAdmin developer Infos and Download: http://postfixadmin.sf.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
Hi Christian, Thanks! The conference is shaping up very nicely indeed, stay tuned for more! The train station closest to the venue is indeed Voorburg, from there it's a 10 minute walk and we're looking into setting up a shuttle service. The conference will end at the end of the afternoon on may 4th, around 16/17h pm. Looking forward to see you at oSC!
