[opensuse-project] Shipping openSUSE:Leap:xx.y packages on a DVD?
Hello, As far as I'm aware, we don't seem to have a DVD with the contents of the openSUSE:Leap:xx.y project as a downloadable option. In other words, there isn't a nice way for someone to install any extra packages available for openSUSE Leap without having an internet connection. Is there any chance we can enable this (should I submit a FATE request)? AFAICS, SLE does have this option, so OBS already has the required features to produce DVD images like that. As with SLE, we'd only need to ship the contents of openSUSE:Leap:xx.y (not :Update). Was this already discussed before and decided against? Thanks. -- Aleksa Sarai Software Engineer (Containers) SUSE Linux GmbH https://www.cyphar.com/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks.
There was recent discussion on the factory list about what should be in the DVD in terms of desktops, user apps etc, there was some talk (probably mostly by me) about doing a second DVD with some of the less major desktops and also given how cheap USB Flash drives are now maybe thinking about a slightly larger 8GB image that can be dd'ed to a flash drive, I don't think anyone mentioned trying to fit the entire distro onto multiple DVD's like SLE (The openSUSE installer does prompt for extra media at install though still). Maybe given we live in the age of really cheap flash drives we should just make 1 iso with everything (I have no idea how big that would be) it seems like less hassle then trying to split into multiple DVD's. Anyway I don't think the discussion ended up getting anywhere because changing things either involved hard decisions that know one wanted to make or someone stepping up to try and build different images which know one has done to this point. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adeliade Australia, UTC+9:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B

SLES or SLED, even when you include modules and addons like the SDK, is significant smaller in terms of package count and GB in repos than openSUSE Leap or Tumbleweed There is a significant effort in building DVDs in order to offer everything SLE does *NOT* offer all of SLE on DVD - Modules for example only offered online. I have no objection to someone putting in the work for openSUSE, but it's a lot of work, I'll wish them well, hope it doesn't drive them crazy, and wonder if they could spend their time doing something more useful :) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

SLE has what option? Either you're talking about something else than what your words say or you were misinformed. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org

The 42.2 oss repo currently has > 20GB. To have it offline, pick a mirror that allows rsync and copy all of it to a local disk. I don't see the benefit of duplicating everything to provide an additional 20GB image. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
