Some of the translators are now talking about this, and so far all think similarly.
I know it might seem weird to start my reply to your email with the last sentence, but I need to get it out of the way. I'm very disappointed to see you use the technique of citing others without examples in order to make your opinion sound more widely supported. After our discussion on the forums on this topic ( https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/508491-quot-As-frequently-heard-o... ) I thought you were above using such methods
Suddenly, without telling us, the translators, we noticed that some translations have migrated to weblate.

Nobody told or asked the current translators. :-//
Me, I say here and now that this means I stop contributing to translations. I will not use a web tool and that's not open to discussion.
Well, in which case I have no choice but to respect and support your decision to leave us. Thanks for all your contributions, I'm sorry to see things end this way, but if the matter is closed for discussion, then nothing I can say will persuade you to reconsider. All the best ---- For anyone else who might be concerned by the change, here's a few things I've been able to find out Tomas Chvatal, sbrabec, mcihar and others have been working on the idea of using Weblate for quite some time (2 years+) In the past, attempts to raise conversations on topics around changing the translation workflow often resulted in bikeshedding For example, I can think of several threads where talk about translating Tumbleweed were discussed ( http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2015-07/msg00921.html, http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-translation/2015-08/msg00022.html ) just to have the situation declared 'impossible' because the current workflow wouldn't fit with it, but no discussion to alter that workflow seemed to take root This also happened on the Landing page translation thread ( http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-translation/2015-07/msg00009.html ) where any discussion about changing the workflow of translation for the site was pretty much killed without consideration. Weblate should hopefully open some avenues which we should explore to give a better translation service to our users It's git-based, which is aligned to openSUSE's use of git for most things these days It's designed in a way that seems to make it easy to track upstream projects, so should open doors for better translation in Tumbleweed It also should be better aligned with what SUSE are doing with SLE, so Leap will also benefit - in theory it'll mean less duplication of effort from both the SLE and openSUSE sides of things. What you see right now is effectively an 'open beta', a bunch of contributors have gone away and put together a working proof of concept so now anyone interested in translations can start a conversation comparing 'the working old' vs 'the working new', rather than 'the working old' vs 'a theoretical new', which is always easier to defeat in an argument because no one can play with a theory.. We need to move forward and be open to change. We've got a rolling distribution now which more and more people are using, and should be using, and we need to carry through our reputation as being a very well localised distribution into that rolling distribution also. Our stable distribution is also built in a totally different way from every other distribution on the planet, so we need to find solutions that work there - we can't cling to old methods and pretend they still work, when they frankly don't. Tomas is communicating on the threads about this in the -translation mailinglist, and I know he and others are working on more communication about this for next week. I think it would make sense to keep the conversation there, as this issue couldn't really fit the definition of a 'translation specific' issue for the opensuse-translation mailinglist better. So, don't panic, have a lot of fun, and use this opportunity to learn new things and help make all of openSUSE a little better -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
