Linux has 1% of the marketshare on the desktop. It is not an interesting amount for a company honestly.
Why do you think they put Novell on the auction block? If executive management was optimistic about Novell's potential to gain significant market share, why would they do that?
Because they want more money. It has nothing to do with technology, software or plans. It's just business, and if they find the buyer who pays as much as they want, they'll sell. I would invite you in not reading too much in that: we simply do not have any element to judge at the moment. The rest is pure speculation, and it is not going to help in any way.
