Hi all, The dust is finally starting to settle after returning from the openSUSE Summit -- which was a pretty good event, btw; thanks to the sponsors (SUSE, ownCloud, Omnibond) and to the whole organization team, and especially to Bryen and Alan who did a fantastic job! I just wanted to write a quick mail about this announcement: obviously, I'm excited to join the board as chairman! I'm wishing all the best to Alan who is moving to the OpenStack Foundation, and he will for sure have a good use there for his experience as chairman of the openSUSE board. I also want to thank the current board for approving my appointment. I believe the board can do a lot to serve and guide the community. And for this to work fine, the board needs input and feedback from the community about the non-technical topics (technical topics like "systemd vs sysvinit" are better handled by all the teams we have, including the release team). So don't hesitate to send to board@opensuse.org, or just to me if you prefer, your input and feedback about what you believe the board should do, what we are doing good and what we are doing bad. My intent is not to start a huge introspection thread on opensuse-project (I don't think that'd work well), so be careful when replying, we're watching you ;-) Several board members will obviously be coming to the openSUSE Conference, so if you happen to go there, you can also wait a bit and have a in-person discussion with any of us. I've had such chats during the Summit, and that was really useful! Finally, I'd like to remind everyone that there will be board elections in a couple of months. Every openSUSE member can run for the elections (unless that member already served for two consecutive periods). So start thinking about it; this is a great way to contribute to the project and help it move forward. This week Alan Clark announced to the openSUSE Board that he is stepping down from his position as Board Chair. His duties in SUSE keep him increasingly busy and SUSE has decided, after almost two years, the time has come for someone else to take on his role.
So, after thinking about what skills are most relevant for the openSUSE Board right now and who would fit in best, SUSE managers Michael Miller (Marketing and Product Management) and Ralf Flaxa (Engineering) have brought in former GNOME Foundation Chairman Vincent Untz to take on the role as chair. The Board is very pleased having someone with the skills and experience of Vincent on board!
