I kinda agree with this, Alberto - in some ways people feel responsibility to contribute if they feel they're a part of something. Maybe an approach that instead of starting from "what have you done?" that starts from "what could you do?" would increase people's willingness to contribute. Asking that sort of question on the membership application form would get people to thinking about how they could give back to the community, and for most people, if they think about how they could give back, it's not hard to take that next step to actually doing something.
