a) Having considered the troubles of some to find ways to unsubscribe, even to recall what lists they are subscribed to and also searching for a channel to convey information about unsubscribe, behavior in case of complain, responsible people (since this may change due to turnover): it would be IMO a good idea to send a reminder mail every 6 month (e.g.) containing: - the lists the email in question is subscribed to - the way on how to unsubscribe if desired -update on rules and regulations and particularly - a how to on behavior to hold in case of complain about list members causing grief or conflict - an updated list on who is in charge where in the project especially but not necessarily exclusively the ones in charge for the respective mailing-lists. The rational is that such an email avoids questioning on the very lists. The demand for it is obviously there since although in theory the information is there, it is in separate places, people forget about details, do not have time to inquire etc. The mail should not come often not to annoy people but often enough not to be outdated. IMO 6 month period is a reasonable time, one year is also acceptable but it seems long to me. The less frequent such a mail does come, the more information should it contain (in a clearly structured way) YMMV. An example mailing list that AFAIK is doing it regularly is the GNUPG mailinglist. b) a second point was about the entry page. How could one have some information be presented in a circular and dynamic way without requiring a lot of personnel to change the outfit of the page? My proposal would be to stick to this design examples of commercial websites below (disclaimer: these are design examples of what I propose, neither do I think you will be interested in the commerce nor am I associated with these people in any way. But I noticed the web-solution): https://www.bike-components.de/en/ a similar thing you have it with this vendor (just differently sized). https://www.alternate.de/ here you instead you have a tab-based approach but substantially the same solution (again the same disclaimer applies). If you have a look at the upper part of the page. It presents a slide-show that can be manually stopped, a click brings you to the corresponding information if desired and of course it circles through. Such a presentation could solve the issue of who "comes first" on a webpage, e.g. tumbleweed being on the left or leap on the right etc) as everyone will have the same circle time. This first diapo could be the one giving info of new and recent thematic, then circle to the distributions. Substantially this gives you a lot of freedom to: 1) change a lot of things 2) to not change a thing Point two is particularly nice because a redesign can be done very selectively and does not require to change the setup of the whole page. IMO an economical way of proceeding. Lastly a suggestion about how to lower complexity in link based websites (or that do convey a lot of different info available). "Click-boxes" that selectively show only a part of the information - thus making the page easier to read. An example of what I mean here, you can find it here: http://www.archchinese.com/chinese_english_dictionary.html?find=software This page will open with a lot of translations and gimmicks for the word "software" . Now look at the section "sentences" below. It is cluttered with too much info. But you see the tick-boxes? Try them out, a click and you deselect part of the page. I found this to be extremely efficient to see what you search with little effort and to have a very personalized approach to information. Where you could use this, I do not know, maybe WIKI? But I think it is nice for the eye, thus I wanted to present it here a an example, maybe it raises some interest. (Again I do not take money nor any advantage from this link, it is just for the sake of an html example). Thank you Richard, Michael and who else was present today. Submit your talk suggestions now! https://events.opensuse.org/conference/oSC16/proposal/new oSC 16 Team have found that a previously favoured venue is available a week earlier than originally targeted for oSC 16. Price appears reasonable. Dates for oSC 16 are now expected to be somewhere around 21-26th June. Would not recommend anyone booking anything yet as further planning and discussion needs to be confirmed, but this should be finalised and formally announced soon. TSP Michal mailed Stathis from the TSP team asking for clarification about the confusing messages about FOSDEM travel reimbursement. Did not receive a response to this mail, but anecdotal feedback suggests the TSP team have decided to consider requests for reimbursement for FOSDEM despite the earliest opportunity for people to apply being later than the usual deadline. If this is the case, the Board welcomes this action by the TSP team. For those who like to attend conventions, but don't have an infinite budget, there are sometimes (as thankfully there is with oSC15) videos. The staff of the Southern California Linux Exposition (SCaLE) has a YouTube channel < https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN2nbMPLJWv3Y__4JuF_hMQ > to which they are now actively posting presentations made at SCaLE14x. You can binge on copies of the 11 hour live feeds from individual rooms or find individual presentations broken out. Of course, the quality of the presentation depends upon the originator, but I intend to look for information I was not able to receive live. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again. Is something up with the downloads server? Trying to get a screen capture back on Tumbleweed Plasma. I'm having no luck this is the one that's supposed to be provided but a recent update removed the old screen capture program and didn't provide the replacement. This is the replacement. If it isn't please excuse the noise (and tell me where to turn to :-)).] Hello all, I'm trying to do some mid-term planning for a couple of our projects. For that it'd be very helpful to know how certain packages will evolve over the next couple of versions: Looking at Leap 42.1 we currently have - wxWidgets 2.8.12 (as well as the more recent 3.0.x) - DeviceKit-disks (contained in udisks-1.0.5) - Ruby 2.1 - X.org 7.6 What are the odds that wxWidgets 2.8.12 and DeviceKit-disks (udisks-1.0.5) will still be kept for 42.2 or 42.3? How about Ruby and X.org? Will it simply be the version of these packages that are current a few months before the release of 42.x? Any insights, guesses, hints, ... will be greatly appreciated! Meeting Minutes 11 Jan 2016 3PM CEST Topics Budget oSC 16 TSP Mailinglist Moderation Budget Board discussed current budget status at the end of the Board year - agreed to continue as in previous years going forward, with the assumption that the next board will put together an expectation of expenses for SUSE to approve/be aware of oSC 16 Some confusion about the final dates, the Board is awaiting confirmation of the final dates. The Board is concerned that time is ticking and the sooner public announcements, CFPs, calls for sponsors, happen, the better TSP The Board noted potentially confusing messages coming from the TSP team, with some encouragement on Facebook regarding applying for TSP for FOSDEM when FOSDEM is closer than the usual 6 week TSP window. Michal to follow up with the TSP team to make sure everything is okay Mailinglist Moderation Discussed the community feedback regarding mailinglist moderation. Board decided that, while the original decision to remove an individual from all openSUSE lists was correct and justified, the impact was more far reaching that intended, removing a source of great help from the opensuse@ support mailinglist. Judging by https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Board_meeting, the board stopped meeting in March last year, and no minutes were posted from that last irc meeting. Apparently a face-to-face meeting took place on March 28 & 29, but I see no minutes nor a report from that either. In May 2015, Bruno Friedmann then quietly announced: "To be precise, the meeting on irc, is no more automatic. (Apologies for the cross-posting) Hello All, It's that time of year again! FOSDEM is at the end of the month (30 & 31 Jan) and as usual, openSUSE will be there, big, bold and as green as ever FOSDEM is one of our biggest events of the year, and is an exceptionally good opportunity to see what is going on in the big wide open source world and start conversations collaborating across our various projects. Kostas has arranged for a booth at the conference, and I believe he is still looking for volunteers to help man it. I would expect a formal Call for Volunteers in the next few days, but anyone who is keen to help can probably email him directly already - warlordfff(a)opensuse.org . Given all the changes regarding Tumbleweed and the launch of Leap lately, I'm expecting even more interest in the openSUSE booth than usual this year, so the more volunteers the better. The openSUSE Booth is the focal point of our presence at FOSDEM, always with lost of people coming up and asking questions. In between attending tracks I'd encourage all openSUSE contributors to stop by, say hello, and help out at the booth, even if it's just answering questions of passers by. We are one of the more active projects out there these days, FOSDEM is one of those chances to really show it. For those of us lucky enough to live near Nuremberg, SUSE are sponsoring a coach which will be taking as many as we can from SUSE's HQ in Nuremberg to Brussels Most of us are staying at the NH City Centre or NH Stephanie hotels, so picking a hotel near there will be most convenient - I cannot promise the bus will be able to drop everyone off at their own hotel. [opensuse-project] My campaign for the openSUSE Board

Hi Everyone ( I have a very weak Internet connection until Sunday, so please bear with me, with this email only for a while). My general consensus would be to improve communication between everyone (the board, the developers, the non-developers and SUSE). Thanks to the previous efforts from the community and the Board (I do not agree with all that the board does however, they have worked hard over the past two years and have bought noticeable changes to the community), we have are at talking to each other better and more. However, as much as it is necessary, I believe we should have some kind of rules to guide how these communication will work. For example, if a new project has to be incorporated how does that happen, specially for our non-technical contributors, how do we involve them early testing so that they can give feedback?) What I am good at is really keep deadlines in the context of the project, and that has been demonstrated with my contributions to GSoC and openSUSE.Asia Summit. Hi we are currently in Phase 1, that is campaign for the candidates before the ballots open. We have following candidates running for board: * Bryan Lunduke * Manu Gupta * Gertjan Lettink, a.k.a.
