Hi all, SUSE will be organizing Hackweek VIII next week (July 23 to July 27 2012) for SUSE R&D employees. What does it mean for openSUSE ? - you might see more people hacking on various openSUSE projects - you might see less people responding on bugzilla or various projects (because they are hacking on something else) - and probably many other things (who knows). [opensuse-project] Going to FroSCon and doing a presentation on RPM/OBS ?

Hi All, i would like to bring your attention on the fact that we (translators) need to have the "Upcoming features" [0] and "Screenshots" pages ready for translation at least two or three weeks before the release. I don't know who is responsible for that pages so i wrote here... If we want to make a sort of marketing campaign we need obviously more time to "spam" all over the blogosphere the new features and enhancements of oS 12.2. Hi, who of you is working as part of their GSoC on openSUSE Connect? Or during Hackweek maybe? My GSoC student is doing some nice progress[1] and we have something to show around. How are others doing? Anybody wants to show their progress on openSUSE Conference this year? As I doubt that I'll be able to speak about Karma in openSUSE Connect for half an hour, I had an idea to share a talk with somebody else who was working on Connect as well... Anybody interested? As many of you know, I’ve been working hard to get ready for the first ever openSUSE conference in North America, the openSUSE Summit (http://summit.opensuse.org) We still have a lot of work to do before the big event in Orlando from September 21-23. Across the big pond, similar efforts are underway for our annual openSUSE Conference to be held in Prague in October. (http://conference.opensuse.org.) Michal Hrusecky has been working diligently with his team to make that conference as awesome as ever. Earlier today, Michal and I had a conversation. We agreed we need to move forth on getting an app ready for both events. It seems silly for each of our teams to find someone to develop an app. Why two stones for one bird? Right? So we’re putting out the call now for anyone who has an interest in creating or enhancing existing phone app that covers the conference program and all activities happening around the conference. Here’s some details: * We had an app for Android for last year’s openSUSE Conference. The source is here. (https://github.com/digitaltom/OSCFahrplan) * We did not have an app for iPhone. As geeky as we are, there are a number of people out there that carry iPhones. * The apps are meant to reduce paper and increase communication to our attendees * Ideally, the app would list non–Program events, such as parties and other things going on. * Ideally, the app would update periodically for any program changes * Ideally, the app is capable of receiving announcements throughout the conference. * There probably needs to be two separate apps, one for each conference. * You can reuse the existing source or develop from scratch. A “Dream App” would be cool. * I personally would like to see some increased a11y features (like zooming, etc.) * We might be interested in allowing users to switch to different language versions within the app. If you’re interested and have the skills, please reach out to me and Michal and we’ll all work together to make this an awesome tool to enhance our attendees’ experience. Hi, here's a small summary of the 8th (coding) week. The last days I was working on getting build support into the osc2 library. I just checked in a BuildInfo and Builder class (+ testcases). Here's a brief example how they can be used: # example how to use the Builder class builder = Builder(su_cmd=Builder.SUDO, root='/var/tmp/build-root') builder.rpmlist = '/path/to/rpmlist' builder.dist = '/path/to/buildconfig' builder.without = 'feature1' builder.without += 'feature2' builder.arch = 'x86_64' # run the build: builder.run('/path/to/osc.spec') # this executes: sudo /usr/bin/build --arch x86_64 --dist /path/to/buildconfig \ --root /var/tmp/build-root --rpmlist /path/to/rpmlist \ --without feature1 --without feature2 /path/to/osc.spec Basically Builder is just a wrapper around the build script (all options will be passed to the build script; if an option contains a "-" character like "vm-type" it can be set like this: "binfo.vm_type = 'xen'" (a "_" will be replaced with "-")). Additionally here's a small example how to utilize the BuildInfo class: # fname is a path to a spec file binfo = BuildInfo('openSUSE:Tools', 'osc', 'openSUSE_Factory', 'x86_64', filename=fname) # print preinstall packages for bdep in binfo.preinstall(): print bdep.get('name'), bdep.get('version') # save binfo xml in a file binfo.write_to('/path/to/file.xml') The next thing on my TODO is the fetcher and cachemanager code. The 12.2 Release Notes ask if the entry "initialising Graphics with KMS" is still needed?". Given bug 768638, the Release Notes need to state that Nvidia graphics cards may cause udev errors and prevent the distribution DVD, CD etc starting up correctly.
