The mailing list for the organization and planning of the openSUSE
Summit is now ready. If you have already volunteered, plan to
volunteer, or are just plain curious and a lurker, please subscribe to
the mailing list at:
opensuse-summit+subscribe(a)opensuse.org
The sooner we all get on the list, the sooner we can all get on the same
page with various things going on instead of spread out disjointed as we
are currently.
Thanks!

Hello,
I am a final year undergraduate student at the Polytechnic University
of Bucharest, Automation and Computers Faculty. This GSoC idea
(Compositor Colour Management) looks like something I would enjoy
doing, even if at the moment I don't understand exactly what it's
about.
I have acceptable C / C++ skills and lots of experience with OpenGL. I
am also familiar with Qt. Regarding shaders, I wrote a couple about 2
years ago for an old project, and I still know how they function, so
it should be easy for me to remember.
Last GSoC I worked on an OpenGL interface for VLC, and 2 years ago I
worked on capture support for Phonon.
I don't know much about Oyranos and colour management, but it can't be
too difficult to handle, eventually.
There is still time until the application period starts, so, what
should I do now? The idea indicates to update a Compiz plugin for a
start, but I don't have Compiz around on any of my computers, and I
can't say I have too much spare time at the moment. Do you recommend
me to try and work on that as soon as possible?

Hi,
within the Evergreen project
http://en.opensuse.org/Evergreen
we are planning to designate openSUSE 11.4 as the next Evergreen
supported release. There are several reasons why 11.4 is a good
candidate in our opinion and it even was my proposal in the beginning of
Evergreen.
Still we would like to hear your opinions and we actually are also
looking for contributors to make the next Evergreen a success. The
previous Evergreen releases 11.1 and 11.2 still had a "kind of
experimental" flag and not many people working on it.
I've created a simple poll here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGpHRW5XVjJSbGpoakk5UU…
Please only submit if you care about Evergreen as a user or contributor.
Everyone interested is also invited to join the mailinglist as described
in the wiki page.
And yes, in case Evergreen takes off (according to your feedback) with
next release the existing list will be moved to openSUSE infrastructure.

I just updated the packages in 12.2 and I have the Factory repository of
LibreOffice in that system. I noticed however that the version of LibreOffice
in that repository is still 3.4.5. I would have expected at least 3.5.0, but
3.5.1.rc1 would even be better.

Too much testing is impossible, right?
How about including an additional installation scheme or morphing the
existing one into one that _facilitates_ installation testing? Instead of the
usual root/home/swap, how about suggesting or including an additional
reservation or empty partition intended to become the next root (current+1)
or test root (current+.X)?

Hello,
I'm Peter Czanik from syslog-ng upstream, openSUSE syslog-ng maintainer.
This year we are also planing to join GSoC. As new to GSoC, we need
somebody to vouch for us:
"Are you a new organization who has a Googler or other organization to
vouch for you? If so, please list their name(s) here."
Could you help us with this?
Bye,
