Hello Jos, According to KDE-Akademy "Call for papers" [1] , [2] i have to send an e-mail at akademy-es-org(a)kde-espana.es before 18/04 in which i include a brief summary of the presentation. At 23/04 the accepted presentations will be announced. So i follow the steps ;) Furthermore i will have a look at our repo [3] and Talking Points [4] as well. Combing stuff from artwork, my points of view , talking points and other past presentations would be a good choice i think . Also i hope that the presentation will be accepted and i will order material and stuff from [5]. [opensuse-project] GSoC 2012 : Beautiful 1 Click Install

Hi, I have started work on the 'Beautiful 1 Click Install' project. So far, I have gone through the 1-Click install specification. I am also looking at integration of package kit with Qt, and researching on libzypp. It would be great if I could get some direction in how to pursue it further. Regards,. [opensuse-project] [GsoC 2012] Application / Self-introduction

Greetings, My name is Alexandros-Panayiotis Natsios (a.k.a Alex-P. Natsios or Drakevr). Currently i am an undergrad in the Technological Educational Institute(TEI) of Larissa in Greece, studying Computer Science(cs). I speak 2 languages: Greek (native speaker) and English (C2 Level). I am a member of the local user group of our institute (LinuxTeam @ TEI of Larissa) and the Greek openSUSE community. I have been an avid supporter of the community and distro itself, both helping in various events like fosscomm (Greek, free open source software communities meeting) and occasional local events (mostly in Larissa). Furthermore i have participated in last years GCI (Google Code In 2011) as a mentor for the alternative Open Source Haiku-OS ( http://haiku-os.org ) I studied and program in C/C++ and occasionally in Perl & Ruby, I have used Qt in the past (C++) so it should be fairly easy for me to get back on track with it. I am by no means a guru in any of those languages & toolkit, i am fairly accustomed with them though. I am really interested in this idea: Beautiful one-click install I firmly believe that this project will be beneficial for both openSUSE for an easy and quick way to install packages and myself as both an entry point for improving my skills in Qt and actively contribute to the community by developing a tool that will be useful for the current community and as an easier "entrance" point for new users by creating specific package bundles or themed package lists that would be a click away to get. -- Best Regards, Alex-P. [opensuse-project] membership discussion: statement from the membership officials

Hi all, this is a statement from the membership officials to the current discussion and proposal about maintaining the opensuse membership[1]. The proposal suggests to re-evaluate each members' contributions every 2 years. We think that is not doable by us, even with great tools that gather information automatically, and would give us lots of discussions with members that lose their status. We support the proposal to set a 'passive' attribute to a member that didn't vote in the board elections for 2 periods. With the possibility to get 'active' again anytime with a simple mail to us. That 'passive' attribute would be in no way taking any perks from the member beside the voting, which he can re-gain anytime. Accompanied by that we propose to add a 'none of them' option in the board elections, so that everyone can vote, even if he does not like the candidates. The goal of all of this is that the project is able to detect if an election or vote is valid, by defining that the vote needs for example a participation of more then 60% of 'active' members. Hi Jos! My name is Athanasios-Ilias Rousinopoulos. We met in Fosdem this year. Well i leave and study in Madrid (Master in Free Software). I'll be in Madrid during May and June , so i'm able to attend at this event. Furthermore i took part in LSWC '11 (http://zoumpis.wordpress.com/2011/11/21/lswc11-zaragoza-spain-report-en/) where i saw a presentation about AZLinux and discussed with the people there. Also i'm an openSUSE Ambassador and i speak spanish so i think that i can present the openSUSE Project or smth similar as well. Hello All, I am Sainyam Galhotra. Unfortunately I haven't had enough time to become a useful member of OpenSUSE community because of study and work, but now I have. I'm interested in implementing the openSUSE's GSOC 2012 Idea - Implementing accurate XML code formatting. But actually I want to implement the idea that is a little bit extended and interesting. What is the idea and some information about me follows. Age - 19 School - Indian Institute of Technology Degree - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering Majors - Computer Science Year - 2nd year( 4th semester) Experience - 2 years of programming experience in various languages like C, C++, Java, XML, SML, Prolog,etc. I have made Big Number package with fast multiply and divide , Multiplayer carrom over lan and Institute room booking system in C. It made me handy with C(imperative programming) and SVN (version controlling and collaboration) skills .I have made binary search trees , general trees , trees used for data compression , heap , traversals on trees graphs , dfs(depth first search) and bfs(breadth first search) on graphs , dijkstra , prim-jarnik and kruskal's algorithms on graphs , evrything above mentioned in JAVA with generic classes , functions and interfaces . I think the above mentioned work and knowledge makes me a perfect choice for this project . About the idea and why I want to implement it - I'm a big fun of open source code and open technologies. But I've only used them in my own projects and now when I have enough skills and opportunity to apply knowledge in open source project I have strong desire to do it. And I belive GSoC is a good start point. I am interested in implementing the accurate XML formatting. [opensuse-project] GSoC 2012 - SUSE Studio Java Client SDK Application / Self-introduction

Hello All, I am Nikolay Garbuzov. I've been using OpenSUSE for last 2 years. Unfortunately I haven't had enough time to become a useful member of OpenSUSE community because of study and work, but now I have. And I really want to make my own contribution on developing and improving my favorite OS. I'm interested in implementing the openSUSE's GSOC 2012 Idea - Suse Studio Java Client SDK. But actually I want to implement the idea that is a little bit extended and interesting. What is the idea and some information about me follows. Age - 23 School - Southern Federal University Degree - Bachelor's degree in Applied mathematics and informatics by specialisation of Information Protection. Majors - Applied mathematics and informatics Year - 2 year of graduate cource Expected year of graduation - 2012 Experience - 2 years in commercial development. Last year as Java engineer at Auriga company and as a part of LiveWire mobile team. Some of the public projects are Mediadrome Music Store and Rumpus (on Android market) Languages and related technologies - I have experience with a lot of languages including C/C++, PHP, Groovy, but prefer code on Java. Also I have good knowlege of such technologies and frameworks as GWT, Grails, JUnit, Android, Spring, Hibernate, MySQL, JavaScript and jQuery, Tomcat, JBoss, Jenkins etc. About the idea and why I want to implement it - I'm a big fun of open source code and open technologies. But I've only used them in my own projects...and now when I have enough skills and opportunity to apply knowlege in open source project I have strong desire to do it. And I belive GSoC is a good start point. So, about the client SDK... I used OpenSUSE Studio project to make my last distributive of OpenSUSE and I think it's really easy and practical approach to make what you really want. My purpose is to implement library that covers all REST API of SUSE Studio in order other developers can use it in their purposes. But it's not all. I'm going to use it and make an Android app which can be used to configure and control SUSE Studio using SUSE Studio Client SDK. I think it might be helpful for many system administrators. Hello, I'm a french student and I am interested by one of your project for the Google Summer of Code 2012. I have made PHP for 4 years, and I really enjoy this language and the web coding in general. Currently, i'm following my second year in an engineering school named University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard and based in France. I'll join the computer science department next year. Let's talk a bit about the project : Make openSUSE Connect more engaging One of the most important part in a community project is the communication between users, developpers, testers... As we can see, social networks are currently the best way to communicate, and I think a social network dedicated to the openSUSE community is a good idea. But it seems that this network is not really used. The lack of some features could be the main reason. To stay in the Google Summer of Code idea, I think the new features should be implemented as Elgg's plugins, maybe with an improvement of an existing one, or with an all new one. The benefits of this project will be for both the openSUSE community and the Elgg community. More communication will allow more people to know openSUSE, which deserved to be best known. I've already worked on long time and big projects such as browsers games, so i'm not afraid of 3 months of coding. My goal is to discover the work in an organization and with foreigners, and to help the two communities. That's could be a really good experience, and I could improve my english. Hello everyone! Let me introduce myself... My name is Evangelia (Lia) Touska (develyn or dev3lyn). I'm an undergraduate student in Informatics and Computer Technology at the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Western Macedonia (Kastoria Campus). I speak Greek (native) and English (C2 Level). I am member of Linux Team @ Kastoria and the Greek openSUSE community. I studied and program in C/C++ and Java for my institute's projects. I started using python (in the last year), shell (last 2 years) and perl (couple of months) for further knowledge. Finaly, I've been interested in packaging for a couple of months.For the openSUSE GsoC 2012 ideas, I am interested in (1) Support for Bitbake in OBS, (2) AppStream: Reviews in software center (I've already found the source code of the Ubuntu reviews software center) and (3) Upstream/Downstream tracker.I hope I can participate in any of those projects, so I can take part in the openSUSE project and increase my experience.That's from me.
