Hi all,
The openSUSE 11.4 feature guide is almost done but there are a few
sections yellow - they need help. This includes security, server and
network related stuff, most of it is on the bottom of the document*.
Anyone with some time to spare: PLEASE have a look at this, 10 minutes
can make a huge difference! If you change anything, put your name in the
author list too :D

This document will be send to journalists on Monday evening so they can
prepare for the release; it will form the basis of the release
announcement we hope to finish on Tuesday; and we'll fill it up with
screenshots then put it on the wiki to show the world how much cool
stuff openSUSE 11.4 ships :D
So it really deserves some attention, help your tired marketing team
out!
cheers,
Jos

Subject: [opensuse-marketing] Time to get social. Help promote openSUSE 11.4.
To: openSUSE Marketing <opensuse-marketing(a)opensuse.org>
Cc: opensuse-ambassadors(a)opensuse.org
Lady and Gentlemen,
On March 10th it time to get Social. It's time to take a moment and
help promote the release of openSUSE 11.4 to the massess. So we are
asking all members to help promote openSUSE 11.4 via the social
networks. Via Facebook, MySpace, Twitter/Identi.ca/FriendFeed/Google
Buzz, and Linked/Xing. I will also like to ask that you help vote
openSUSE 11. on Free Software Daily (Link to come on Thrusday)
On Facebook we asked that you share the news from the two openSUSE
groups. We are also willing to post your news on to those pages.
Anything to get the news out.
We will asked everyone to help us get the word out on
Identica/Twitter/FriendFeed. We will be using the hash tag #opensuse.
We asked that if you can please retweet, doesn't have to be right
away, but if you wait 10 to 20 minutes from the last retwit that would
be great. We like to get on the front of twitter home page. We know
that some of you don't use twitter so you use one of the above, it
would be great to get top of those services as well.
If you don't mind posting new on your LinkedIn or Xing account as
well, that would be prefect.
The key is to use these Social Networks to help promote the release of
openSUSE 11.4.
We have a ton of members world wide. Post in English and Posted in
your native tongue. I really like to see on the openSUSE Facebook
page, stuff in other languages so that we can show all on Facebook
that we have a very large openSUSE Community.
To all the ambassador, now is your time to do your job and promote,
promote, and promote.
Please if I forgot your favorite Social Network group, please let me know.
Lets make March 10th, a truly get openSUSE Release Day.
(PS. Sorry for the cross posting, you can give me lashes after March
10th, but I want to make sure everyone gets this. )

We hope to resolve the matter tonight, but right now, the
repository metadata (repodata/) of the individual repositories
(Essentials, Multimedia, Extra and Games) is broken because it
is not updated correctly.
In the mean time, if you can't wait ;), please use the
"top-level"/"big" repositories instead, they're fine.
To be precise: don't use e.g.
http://packman.inode.at/suse/openSUSE_11.3/Essentials
but use
http://packman.inode.at/suse/openSUSE_11.3
Sorry for the inconvenience :\

Hey,
we in Nuremberg organize a release party on March the 16th and as I
prepare the wiki pages, poster and such I wondered where else we have
release parties. There are a couple of them on the page
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Launch_parties
but that can't be all. Where are all the party people at? :)
I would also like to write a nice article on news.o.o for the release
phase about all the opportunities to meet up with other lizards to have
fun! So please let me and everybody else know if you haven't yet!
Henne
p.s. Oh and if you need help organizing one contact our awesome
marketing team!

Greetings my fellow lizards,
GNOME3 (and potential KDE?) includes libsocialweb, a social data
aggregator that was used by MeeGo to provide the Social Services. It
has now moved home from under the banner of MeeGo, to under the banner
of GNOME. From the outset, the distributor would need to generate the
relevant API keys - this is something that I did when I packaged up
Smeegol.
The question I have is, now that it is no longer being going to be
rolled out as part of Smeegol but openSUSE proper, who should be
responsible for the keys? Should it be Novell, Non-Novell, or a team
that comprises a mix of both, like say the GNOME team or similar?
There are six (6) keys that need to be generated/maintained/managed:
Twitter, Facbook, Last.fm, Flickr, Digg, MySpace
The reason for asking is that someone needs to be responsible for any
misuse, updates, changes etc as required by the service.
Regards,
Andy

Folks,
We're just days away from the release of the much anticipated openSUSE
11.4 on March 10th. Everyone raise your hand in the air and start
chanting the openSUSE Song! Okay, we don't have an actual song, but
maybe we could do the openSUSE Geeko Dance some of us tried to create at
the Marketing Hackfest :-)
But we still have a lot of work to do as we enter this final weekend
before release day. We have compiled a checklist at
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Launch_Checklist . Please take a
moment to look through the list and if you see something interesting to
do, claim it and complete it. Or if you see something already claimed
by someone else, and you'd like to help out, let that person know.
openSUSE Project truly appreciates your help in advance and we're all
looking forward to what promises to be a great release cycle!
Yours truly,
Bryen M Yunashko
