Hi everybody.
I want to raise your attention on a project I'm currently working on
with Adrian: the implementation of a trust/rating system for the OBS.
We'd appreciate if everyone interested could communicate his
opinions/thoughts/impressions on this. We are very interested to get
some input from the whole openSUSE community.
Adrian has already posted a wiki entry which gives further information
on the subject here... http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/Concepts/Trust
Feel free to comment on this - input is highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Rupert

Hi,
Again we offer to send PromoDVDs, for more information take a look at the wiki
page:
http://en.opensuse.org/PromoDVD
Short: It's a live version with KDE/GNOME, but you can also install it. 32bit
only as always.
The DVD is made to promote openSUSE, especially on exhibitions and other
events, local usergroups, schools, universities and so on. If you want some
DVDs, send a mail with:
- exactly the subject "openSUSE 10.3 PromoDVDs", send it to
marketing(a)opensuse.org. Mails to me or the list will be ignored.
- a _brief_ explanation why you want DVDs
- a link if it's for a university, school, event etc.
- the date of the event or deadline when you need the DVDs.
- full postal address, with name and telephone number (i need this for FedEx)
if possible the address in latin (western) characters, makes it easier for us.
In a perfect world i just have to copy&paste the address from the mail ...
- amount of DVDs
Please understand that the goal is not to send single DVDs for personal use.
Some people already sent me a request. If i didn't answered please resend the
mail.
First come first serve, no promises ...

Dear lovers of green, swift-tongued reptiles,
On behalf of the openSUSE Board, I would like to propose the adoption
of a Code of Conduct for openSUSE.
Right now, openSUSE has the following paragraph buried deep in the
project's Guiding Principles [1]:
[We value] ... respect for other persons and their contributions, for
other opinions and beliefs. We listen to arguments and address
problems in a constructive and open way. We believe that a
diverse community based on mutual respect is the base for a
creative and productive environment enabling the project to be
truly successful. We don't tolerate social discrimination and
aim at creating an environment where people feel accepted and
safe from offense.
While this a very good summary of how people should behave toward each
other, it's not really easy to find these guidelines as a newcomer.
There is a lot of abuse in places like IRC channels and mailing lists
(notably the opensuse@ mailing list), and we would like to propose a
simple, clear Code of Conduct to start fixing this problem.
GNOME has a very simple Code of Conduct [2], which is based on Ubuntu's.
It can be summarized in four points:
* Be respectful and considerate.
(About avoiding personal attacks or poor behavior due
to disagreement)
* Be patient and generous.
(About understanding that people ask for help because
they need it, and avoiding "RTFM" answers)
* Assume people mean well.
(About avoiding knee-jerk responses when you disagree
with something)
* Try to be concise.
(About avoiding repetition of topics and off-topic
discussions)
We would like to propose that openSUSE adopt the same principles for
its Code of Conduct. I don't foresee any need to have a "police" for
this; when something goes out ofhand, we can simply discuss cases of
repeated offences and take the appropriate action. The Board can
certainly help with this.
What do you think?

Cheers,
Federico
