Can't install on Firewire drive
I would like to install SuSE 10 b4 on an external Firewire drive but it fails. I have loaded the firewire components, but still failing ... Yast recognized my hardrive, I could select my partition and format it, but it failed to install when installation process began. Do no let yast touch your partition table, it will always fail with partition types other thant 'msdos'. Instead, partition before you start the installation, and assign only mount points in the partitioner. In case of installation onto a firewire drive, add 'ohci1394 sbp2' to INITRD_MODULES in /etc/sysconfig/kernel, and rerun mkinitrd.

It doesn't work too when i partition before. I have the same error code -1012. I even tried with foramting to linux swap and ext3 and yast doesn't recognise the partitions ... If I assign the mount point it fails too ... I have found the way to load drivers, i have loaded PPC + Firewire drivers and then launch the installation via texte mode, then assigned the format to the partitions and the mounts points manually, but still same issue with error -1012 ... it is exactly what i did, under os x. And I put the partitinos following Yast requested before. J'ai utilisé un CD install de gentoo (le 2005.1 pour ne pas le nommer). La j'ai crée trois partitions : une petite pour yaboot (Apple bootstrap) Une de 512 Mo pour le swap le reste soit environ 5go pour installer linux.
a la fin cela a donne cela : /dev/sda1 Apple_partition_map /dev/sda2 Apple_Bootstrap /dev/sda3 Swap partition /dev/sda4 ext3
Ensuite j'ai créé le bon filesystem pour sda4 ( mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda4) Idem pour la partition de swap (mkswap /dev/sda3) que l'on active ensuite (swapon /dev/sda3).
Dans l'install de OpenSuse, je suis allé dans les réglages experts du partitionnement pour lui dire de ne pas formater mes partitions. L'installeur reconnait mes partitions mais plante comme tout le monde : mad.gif J'ai aussi essayé de formater plutot la partition sda4 en reiserfs car j'ai vu que OpenSuse aimait bien ce format : meme resultat.
I translate : I have used a Gentoo install CD (2005.1) I made 3 partitions : a small one for yaboot (Apple bootstrap) one of 512 Mb for the Swap the scrap, about 5 Gb for Linux. At the end it was : /dev/sda1 Apple_partition_map /dev/sda2 Apple_Bootstrap /dev/sda3 Swap partition /dev/sda4 ext3 I made the right filesystem for sda4 ( mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda4) the same for the swap partition (mkswap /dev/sda3) that we activate later (swapon /dev/sda3). In the OpenSuse install, i went into the partitions expert settings to tell it to not format my partitions. The installer see my partitions, but crashes like for everybody : mad.gif I tried also to format instead the sd4 parttiion in reiserfs because I saw OpenSuse liked it : same result.
