Peter, Quick question! I believe you have the Pegasus computer also? Having played with both that and the Apple computer, which one do you feel is the better supported hardware? Anyone else can jump in as well. I like the idea of the open bios the Pegasus uses, but feel the hardware is more current with the Apple models. Running Linux only on either would be the prime target and out of curiosity, I've never heard anyone compare the two. thanks, Pat

I can't compare them either, I only use Pegasos. But Genesi is going to have a dual dual-core G5 machine in a few months, and I was interested, if there is at least a theoretical support for that machine in SUSE Linux 10.1. Bye, CzP
thanks, Pat

========== Ok, that sounds very interesting then. A dual G5 with open bios and all the latest bells and whistles. Yep, that would make running Linux PPC very interesting to me! ;o) I'll keep an eye on the progress of that and in the meantime locate myself a PPC to play with SuSE. Thanks, Pat

It's worth waiting two more days for SUSE Linux 10.1 beta5. Beta3 still had a lot of bugs, which were fixed for beta4. But beta4 has a new package manager back end, and was a 5 hours fight to install on Pegasos. Beta5 will hopefully see a feature full and stable package manager and bring us back to normal life... In theory, new Genesi machines will arrive as fallows: - EFIKA at the end of next month. This is mainly for embedded applications, a SOC solution. If you, or anyone else has an interesting development project for it, you can apply for a free development machine at http://projects.ppczone.org/projects.php - HDB and OSW (the dual dual core G5) will be server/workstation products for processing intensive applications, around end of spring. Bye, CzP
Thanks, Pat
