Hi, I have upgraded my kernel from 2.2.16 to 2.4.2 but suspect I'm still booting into the old kernel. I'm using a B&W G3 and booting with BootX . Is there some step I should take to ensure I'm booting into the correct kernel? Is there anyway I can tell which kernel is currently in use? many thanks. -- - ____________________________ - Jonathon Wallen - B,DES College of Fine Arts, UNSW - z2213441@student.unsw.edu.au - jwal707@cse.unsw.edu.au - jonathon@fridge.unsw.edu.au - ____________________________
Salut, try dmesg | grep version or uname -a. jops, Christoph. On Fri, Dec 28, 2001 at 01:38:36PM +1000, Jonathon Wallen wrote:

You have to install k_deflt.rpm to get all modules on the Linux side. Boot the file "vmlinux-2.4.12" with BootX from ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/2.4.12/vmlinux-2.4.12.gz Gruss Olaf -- $ man clone BUGS Main feature not yet implemented...

I did this .. the install process seemed to go ok.
Boot the file "vmlinux-2.4.12" with BootX from ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/2.4.12/vmlinux-2.4.12.gz
I didn't install any special vmlinux file .. the vmlinux file appeared in the /boot directory after I installed k_deflt.rpm .. I assumed it was a part of the rpm package. The problem I'm having is that bootX is not giving me the option of booting the new kernel .. even though I can see both the new and the old vmlinux files in the /boot directory. I would have thought bootx would pick up the new file by itself. many thanks. -- - ____________________________ - Jonathon Wallen - B,DES College of Fine Arts, UNSW - z2213441@student.unsw.edu.au - jwal707@cse.unsw.edu.au - jonathon@fridge.unsw.edu.au - ____________________________
Hi, I have a b/w g3 and a 7600 that I would like to add a second network card too. Any suggestions which brand is supported for SUSE ppc Linux? Preferably 100 base-t. Thanks Benjamin
I have been trying to install 7.1 on a b/w g3 with a Adaptec 2940uw card a 16gb cheetah drive. I keep having problems with file system errors when the machine tries to boot into linux. I have not found a lot of documentation yet on if ppc linux is supported to boot from SCSI drives and I was wondering if anyone on the list knows of any pitfalls with this. Thanks Benjamin

Theoretically many (if not all), but in practice you *may* encounter some problems. I have successfully installed a Intel Pro100+ on a beige G3 with SuSE 6.4 (updated to 2.2.18 kernel/modules), but I had to "fight" a bit (it worked with the original 2.2.14, but not -at first- with the newer kernel). Maybe 7.x versions go smoothly... I'll tell you as soon as I find the time to upgrade my system:-). Absolutely no problems with the same configuration and the old Apple 10/100 card (Digital 21140 chip, factory mounted on some beige G3 tower): if you can find one (should also be very cheap), you are surely done in minutes. Needless to say, I'm very interested in this topic too... regards nicola
An Intel Pro 100 worked flawless in my G4/733. Schlomo On Wed, 2 Jan 2002, Benjamin Bacon wrote:
