When restart the machine the BootX-dialog does appear, but when I select Linux the monitor goes black -- it actually seems to switch itself off.
This is strange because booting up Linux through the BootX Application functions fine (vmlinux selected, root device: /dev/sdb8).
Can you try an older version of the bootx extension? http://www.penguinppc.org/~benh/
I was about to -- it was the 'last resort' advice of SuSE Support aswell. However, I thought it might be wise to report my problem to Benjamin Herrenschmidt first. After all he made BootX. His suggestion was to change the filetype of the BootX Extension from "scri" to "INIT". I used ResEdit to do this, and guess what: it worked! I am now able to boot into Linux through the Extension.
