I have a apple G4 Cube dual booting tiger and suse 10.1 alpha4.
I upgraded yesterday from alpha3 , the kernel changed from 2.6.14-2 to
2.6.15-rc3 and at the first boot it seems loading kernel the video output
rediredt to modem port and I couldn' t see anything on my monitor.
I ssh from another machine and reintalled the previus kernel and everything is
fine now (Im posting from the Cube).May be I have to modify something in my
lilo.conf? May be the new kernel is bugged?
Aanyone has any suggestion?
thanks Andrea
Hi list
I am installing SLES on my pseries 620 and it works fine with both version (sles9-sp2 and sles8-sp3a) but I cannot see my disk arrays, I think that I need the apropiate driver for my raid card: PCI 4-Channel Ultra3 SCSI RAID Adapter, I can not find information about this driver for linux ppc... someone had have any similar experience?
Another question, can I install Linux LPAR on this machine? I am thinking on this solution too..
Any advice please... thanks in advance
Here my HW information and some information files:
Pseries 620 (7025-6f1)
2-Way - RS64 IV 600 Mz 4MB L2 cache
02 internal disks scsi
01 PCI 4-Channel Ultra3 SCSI RAID Adapter with 5 scsi disks

I'm trying like heck to install SuSE 10 on an IBM pSeries (710)...but
not having much (any) luck. During the install it provides two options
for bootloaders, ppc or none. ppc doesn't work and if I choose none
then...well...I can't boot to it! In fact, I haven't been able to even
boot to the installed system from the CD install app.
Anyone installed 10.0 on this hardware yet? Where am I going wrong?
I'm almost certain it has to do with my partition setup, but I've
tried it with and without a boot partition - and I have created/kept
the PReP partition (maybe I should blow it away and recreate).
I'm a newbie but there's no need to be kind - let me have it, so long
as it gets this thing going! :)
I have had a horrible time getting the stable v10.0 to install on my
PowerMac 9600. I have tried it with both the 604ev/300 and the Sonnet
G3/400 and tried different video cards and everything to no avail. I
keep getting MD5 sum errors on the packages when it tries to install
them. Or, I get errors, and after hitting retry it works. I am
currently working on my 5th attempt to get it to install. I had it
installed once, but could not get X to work. Here's my specs:
PM9600/300 - Kansas motherboard
604ev/300/1M or Sonnet G3/400/1M
Adaptec 2940UW PCU card flashed with the Apple ROM
ATI Rage II PCI card w/ 4MB VRAM
IXM Twin Turbo w/ 4MB VRAM
256MB RAM
Apple 24x SCSI CD drive on the Adaptec card(Also tried it on the NCR
and MACE controllers)
8x SCSI CDRW
I had no real problems getting v10.0/RC3 installed on this machine
other than the problem with the ATI video bug. I have found that I can
get around it by installing the system with the IXM card, setting it to
boot into Runlevel 3, and then replacing the IXM card with the ATI card
and configuring it with SaX2. However, this time, I was unable to get
SaX2 to properly config the ATI card and X failed no matter what I
tried. I can get the IXM card to work into X, but it is a pain. This
time I installed it with a minimal setup, but YaST still managed to
fail when I inputted my user info, and I had to reboot. Fortunately,
it took the root password this time, and I was able to restart YaST and
I am trying to install the rest of the stuff. now, with error after
error. I burned these CDs the same way I did the RC3 cds, and the
config of the machine is basically the same. I haven't attempted to
install it on my 7500 or my Beige G3/266 to see if I can duplicate it
yet, but that is my next step. Also, I guess I will see about getting
a newer ATI 7xxx video card so long as it will work properly unlike the
Rage II card that I have now. Any help or suggestions would be
appreciated.

Fw: [suse-ppc] Problems loading
suse onto ibm p710
Hi
The firmware revision on this p710 is currently SF225_80 and I believe the
latest available is SF235_180
I have been reading the ibm web page and the only information I can find
on upgrading the firmware involves doing it from the o/s
As I have no o/s installed I was hoping someone could explain how to
install the firmware or point me to the correct documentation
Many thanks
Martin

Hi
I managed to get hold of SLES sp2, burnt to CD for me.
Again from the SMS menu I booted from the CD device.
The following is a summary of output to the screen and options selected.
(some output is missing)
Loading kernel
v1.6.48 install program
searching for info file
driver update service pack 2
make sure CD1 is in the drive
1) ok
select language
4) english
Main menu
4) Start installation or system
1) start installation or update
Choose the source medium
1) cd-rom
Trying to mount the cd-rom
make sure CD1 is in the drive
And that's as far as it goes, cannot seem to mount the cd-rom.
I am not sure if I should be doing something else or if there is a problem
with the image on the CD?
Maybe I will give updating the firmware a go
Thanks

If/When you get it installed, PLEASE share your drive configuration!!
Again though, the ONLY way I managed to get it installed was via the
HMC and VNC (you never go into the graphical/Yast installation portion
on the console, only via VNC).
Even if you did make it into the Yast install via a console, the
graphical installation is almost to the point of unusable - even via a
terminal through HMC.

Hello!
I did an update of my Suse-10.0 PPC (on my PowerBook G3 Wallstreet - Suse works on it, great! :-) ).
This update did change the kernel and related stuff (modules), and I rebooted w/o uploading the kernel to my HFSplus partition (there I need it for BootX).
Now booting fails due to wrong usage of old kernel vmlinux-2.6.13-15-default in BootX (at best I get a running Linux w/o network access and HFSplus access and I can't upload the kernel anymore... :(
Can anyone help me and send the right kernel vmlinux-2.6.13-15.7-default for PPC from the /boot directory to me? I can't find the kernel on the web...
Thanks in advance
Franz

Thanks for the hint!
Someone gave me access to the kernel, so I can write the answer from my Suse-Mac again :) .
Thanks again for the help

I am COMPLETELY hosed now. I rebooted after a kernel update and
planned to work through the process of configuring the boot drive (not
knowing it would be the PReP drive or the fat drive - partitions
actually). Unfortunately, SMS doesn't acknowledge there even being
drives in the system. If I boot to the original install CD it will
mount / - but initially only in read-only and it tells me there are
all kinds of filesystem issues. IT says I need to run reiserfsck
--rebuild-tree (think it was). I'm afraid to do that for obvious
reasons. It WILL mount / - and to do so I use /dev/md0 so I have to
assume it is seeing the raid (software mirroring).
I've tried following the various instructions for configuring a boot
partition but mount won't mount either sda1 (PReP partion), stating
its an unkown file system, or sda2 (linux native - 83 - at least
that's what fdisk reports though I thought it was fat)...??
ANYONE got an idea of what to do next? I've already got too much time
in what's on those drives and I can't afford to lose them... I also
can't seem to find an easy way to get it moved off now.
