yast partitioner feature request

Hello, I don't know, which is the right place (bugzilla, wish list at openSUSE wiki), but I guess most PPC developers would read it first here ;-) The YaST partitioner knows about the Amiga partition table (which is used on Pegasos2 PPC), as it's based on parted, which knows the Amiga partition table. But if I try to modify the partitions, YaST thinks immediately in PC partitions (primary, extended and logical partitions), and tries to write the MBR according to this. It would be nice, if the Amiga partition table would be recognized, and partitioning suggestions would be done according to this. And, of course, for empty HDDs one should be able to set to use Amiga partition table from a menu. Bye, Peter

Equipment Info

Hi all who reside here! I'm curious about some of the equipment you PPC users have to run SuSE PPC on here. I was very pleased to see that SuSE restarted the PPC development and is making it available to everyone. The next thing will be to see the boxed version on the shelves again. Hopefully OpenSuSE will help that to happen. But I digress. With the renewed interest in PPC for the public comes my renewed interest in having a PPC machine to run Linux on now. I've seen just lately the problems the owner of the G3 had and managed to get working and I know one user is working with a Pegasus machine, but I'm curious what others are using and their experiences too. Realizing that SuSE has yet to get Yast working good with PPC, both on partitioning drives and boot up, which will hopefully be working soon, what other bumps in the road have you guys/girls come up against. When you post your problems/questions to the list, could I request that you mention what unit/hardware you are using? Thanks, Rusty

Bye, > Peter ========= Ok, I had played with one of the new PPC Amiga computers once and knew that the Pegasos was somewhat the same way, only it worked. ;o) Starting it up was not so difficult, but I was worried about the drive utilities, but then I would probably only have Linux on the machine anyway. PowerMac G3 Beige and RC1

Well, I was able to install RC1 on my G3 beige. It was a bit of a hassle tho. I ended up using the Matrox card with the Apple DB15 plug. I booted the G3 into OS 9, and the onboard video was initialized. When I rebooted into Linux using BootX, the MCA card initialized and video was available on it, and the onboard video was locked up on the OS 9 Desktop. YaST booted into the text installer because it couldn't find a video driver for the Matrox card. After finishing the first CD, I shutdown the G3, removed the Matrox card, and rebooted into Linux with the onboard video. This time, the installer came up ok, and I was able to finish the install and properly configure X. The only problem I had with installation was that the xorg-x11-xserver package did not get installed originally, and I had to install it manually with YaST after finishing the installation. The only problem I am having is that KNotify seems to be trying to notify something continuously and it causes the system to slow down. I'm thinking it could be a problem with the audio because it comes up as disabled even tho YaST said it was setup correctly. It is the onboard audio.....any suggestions will be appriciated. Fwd: ppc packman for 10.1 alpha 1

Hello, How many of us are using 10.1 alpha1 on PPC? Some Packman packages for it are available at ftp://spike.fa.gau.hu/pub/pmppc_a1/ These were built and tested only by me, but worked fine. This time MPlayer is included as well, thanks to an altivec patch from the Fedora project. Enjoy! CzP

SuSE on IBM RS6K?

I've got an almost new IBM RS6000 B50 currently running AIX 5.1. In a few months the need for AIX will be history. As ALL my other servers are X86 running SuSE 9.3Pro I would like to migrate this rhino of a server to do some real web work. But, I'd like to keep things, (i.e.: the config) as similar as possible. Does anyone know if the recent SuSE's will run on IBM's flavor of the PPC? I can't find anything relevant on IBM's site or in general but I was hoping someone here may have heard or know someone who??? At one time I tried SuSE 7.3 on a much older PPC601 model which didn't work out well enough to keep. But I like SuSE overall, hence my desire to continue with it on this box. On the other hand, if it doesn't, then perhaps I should list it on eBay and replace it with an AMD Opteron or something similar.... THoughts??? Thanks

Unable to install Beta3 or RC1 on G3 Beige

I just aquired a Powermac G3 Beige system. Here are the specs: G3 @ 266Mhz 512k L2 cache Machine ID - 510(Rev 1 - $77D.4 - 0F2) Personality slot with 56k modem Dual IDE/3 PCI/SCSI 6GB IDE HD(IDE 1) 52x CD-RW(IDE 0) 100MB Zip (SCSI) ATI Rage II+ DVD - 2MB VRAM(on board) I put 384MB of 66Mhz SDRAM in it. No matter what I do, I cannot get the Yast installer to come up. I;ve tried with a lot of different memory configs and still no luck. When it starts up, it says to "Please supply config file", and then I get a blank screen. I can jump between screens(the num lock light goes off and on), but the are all blank. I even tried an ATI Rage II PCI card and same thing.....Any sggestions. I THINK it has Mac OS X on it because the OS 9 version is 9.2.2, but I don't really know anything about X, and just want to run Linux.....Thanx __________________________________________________________________ Look What The New Netscape.com Can Do!
