Hallo Peter Haas! SuSe-Linux direkt ab Festplatte zu booten geht, mit ebenfalls stundenlangem Uminstallieren und ausprobieren von yaboot, os-chooser, ev. BootX App, ev. OpenFirmware. Ich habs sogar schon mal hingebracht, jedesmal, wenn mir das System wieder abverreckt, etwas anders, bisher nicht klar reproduzierbar. Dazu kann ich nur sagen: - Nimm den Ordner Suseboot von der CD zu SuSe Linux 7.0, bei mir hats mit dem Teil von SuSe 7.3 nie funktioniert, dort muss ein Fehler drauf sein, vermut ich. Auch da: bisher kein anständiger Support von SuSe. Auf meinem Powerbook funktionierts z.Z., auf dem Cube nicht. Dort hab ichs nicht mehr hingekriegt. Die Anleitung im Buch SuSe 7.3 zu "NewWorl Macintosh" ist teilweise verwirrlich, grossenteils unklar und unlogisch. Ich habs mit den beiden Büchern, die ich unten erwähnt hab plus dem Buch SuSe 7.0 doch noch hingekriegt gehabt. Grüsse Peter, Bern, Schweiz Am Freitag den, 28. Hi list, I am running a ppc 9500 with PPC SuSE 7.3. The second, non-onboard eth- interface (eth0; 192.168.1.6) is a friendly net 10/100 pci-card with a DEC-chip. This interface works fine, providing the office LAN/Intranet with AppleTalk, ftp, samba, http and rsync (base install, with IP forward enabeled, no firewall). After all the box should also be a router, forwarding the packages to the onboard ethernet device (eth1, 192.168.100.2; -> linked to a bintek router, 192.168.100.1 -> connected to a dsl-modem). I also added the bintec adress as the default route: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 192.168.100.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 40 0 0 eth1 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 40 0 0 eth0 0.0.0.0 192.168.100.1 0.0.0.0 UG 40 0 0 eth1 Strange: its possible to use the mentioned daemons/services and to telnet via LAN to eth0, but it's not possible to ping or get through to eth1 or even reach the bintec-router (and of course to the internet). Did I miss to activate a special service or to edit a certain config-file?? Or is it just impossible to use this ppc as a router (eg the onboard ethernet does not accept ip-packages from a pci-eth-card?). If anyone uses a similar and _running_ routing ppc-box - please let me know (there is another oldworld ppc waiting for doing still a great job...)! which kernel.rpm for RS/6000 B50 ?

Hello, I'm running Suse 7.1 on RS/6000 B50 with k_chrp-2.4.2-4 kernel (accordingly to the `rpm -qa | grep k_` output). I would like to install a more recent kernel, but I'm not sure, which package from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/2.4.16 I should get. k_chrp64-2.4.16-53.ppc.rpm is for 64 bits machines, right ? That leaves k_deflt-2.4.16-55.ppc.rpm, but I'm not very confident about the default part. Anyway, the kernel.rpm installation should be as simple as rpm -ivh k_chrp64-2.4.16-53.ppc.rpm, editing /etc/lilo.conf and running /sbin/lilo -v ? I'll be able to use my old and working (2.4.2) kernel as well, or will rpm -ivh command overwrite the /boot/vmlinux and I should make an backup of it before installing ? I am trying to access an HFS formated Zip drive at /dev/sda4. I invoked "hmount /dev/sda4" from root, exited the console, and clicked on the Zip drive icon on my KDE 2.2.1 desktop. The following error popped up: "Could not mount device. The reported error was: mount: I could not determine the filesystem type, and none was specified." I have been able to "solve" the issue by doing a kludge where I changed the /etc/fstab entry for the Zip drive from: /dev/sda4 /media/zip auto noauto,user 0 0 to /dev/sda4 /media/zip hfs noauto,user 0 0 At some point however, I am going to need to access a Zip disk in another format and will have totaly forgotten about the kludge. I first tried to get this issue answered on the SuSE-E list, as I am working at this time mainly from a Athlon powered box with SuSE 7.3 Pro (KDE 2.2.1), but there doesn't seem to be anyone on the list that has any experience with HFS. Hallo Lukas! Danke für die Mitteilung. Ich hab in Yast 1 gestartet. Es kommt folgende Fehlermeldung: Fehler beim Mounten. Beim Mounten des Dateisystems von Partition "/dev/hda12" auf das Verzeichnis "/tmp/mnt" ist ein Fehler aufgetreten. Der folgende Text enthält die Fehlerausgabe des Mount-Befehls: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock ond /dev/hda12, or too many mounted file systems. Was nun weiter? Again: Help to recover/repair root partitition

Hello! This morning I have written this lines, but didn't get any helb till now. I was thinking about what I could do, I have seen that the partitition /dev/hda12 isn't a root-partitition any more. How can I set it again as root / without losing all the datas? Hello! Help! Something went wrong on my installed SuSe-System 7.3 on my PPC Cube. I pressed the reset-button (ok, I know, I shouldn't, but what else shall I do, when the keyboard won't react) Now, my root-partitition /dev/hda12 can't be recovered/started up. As I am e beginner with Linux, I don't know what to do, and, the SuSe CD Nr. 1 isn't helpful as recovery-CD as far as I know... Thanks for help. Peter, Berne, Switzerland

hallo, i try to boot suse linux today and i receive: activating swap-devices in /etc/fstab . . . failed . . . . fsck.ext2 /dev/sdc6 failed (status 8)! Run it manually! failed laoding keymap mac-us.map.gz failed finally, after giving root password to login (repair filesystem ) # 'blink' i am still relatively new to this os ; however, i did try to source problem within manual with diffikulty. any assistance very much appreciate. ekaterina
