I would rather fix sax2 to to the right thing on the given machine.
Can you send me a few files?
dmesg output
the file /var/log/SaX.log after a `sax2 -af` run
lspci -n output
cat /proc/cpuinfo output
cat /proc/version output
Does startx work after a `sax2 -af` run?

Hi,
I am just upgraded from XFree 4.01 to 4.1 (4.02 did not work at all), and
got almost the same problem, however, I went a little bit further.
Modules libramdac and libxaa seem to be loaded fine.
The log says it all:
Symbol drmScatterGatherFree from module
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.o is unresolved!
Symbol drmScatterGatherAlloc from module
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/r128_drv.o is unresolved!
Please note that I have installed ALL SuSE XFree packages. Its seems drm
is something like direct rendering manager? I do not have dri compiled
into my kernel, is that the cause of this problem? If yes, how to disable
it at all? I am need X just working, no blazing fast video required.
Also, I have specified r128 driver in my xf86config, not r128_drv.
If I enable usefbdev option in config, XFree seem to be do not correctly
recognize resolution or refresh, screen is garbled with diagonal colored
lines.
This all happens on Apple iBook Indigo wir rage 128 mobility and 8 mb
vram.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

Hi,
If dual booting work, and MacOS is booted only if space kay is pressed,
you need just edit os-chooser and swap two lines, or download my
os-chooser script (from my web site) and change partition numbers
accordingly. Please only make sure you really know what you are doing,
i.e. you should be FULLY familiar with syntax of os-chooser.

I will test on iBook Indigo r128 mobility and report back (4.02 doe not
work on myiBook, but 4.01 does).
I am STRONGLY recommend to create XF86Config submission directory for
Power Macs and Apple Portables, since sax2 and all other aut-config tools
produce nothing but garbled screen.

I see that x4.1 is now available from SUSE for PPC. Are there any
'issues' with it. Will it work ok to upgrade on a Summer 2000 iMac?
Would be nice to have DRI and anti-aliasing :-)
Joss
Hi, Anyone know if SUSE 7.2 will be available for PowerPC anytime soon ?
I'm assuming here that the versions of included packages will match those in
7.2 for Intel.
Cheers,
Rodrigues

First Install SuSE 7.1 PPC on PowerMac4400 / MOUNT ERROR

John's advice indeed solved this "MOUNT ERROR" immediately,
after just one time changing the filetype.
Thanks a lot !
( after four days I'm getting closer to the installation itself ;-)

First Install SuSE 7.1 PPC on PowerMac4400 / MOUNT ERROR
As a Linux newbie (but experienced Mac user) I wonder if there's anybody
who can give me some advice when installing SuSE Linux 7.1 PPC
on a PowerMac4400 ("Oldworld Mac"), standard system with 2 GB ATA HDD.
I did the following so far (following the manual), but keep getting stuck at
the "installation preparations";
linuxrc / YaST wants me to set a MOUNTPOINT, but it then keeps giving a
MOUNT ERROR -message:
(see also : page 25 and 60 of manual)
> HDD (2051 MB) configured with Drive setup (v.9.0) to 4 partitions:
> A/UX-Root partition (1692 MB).
> A/UX-Swap partition (96 MB).
> MacOS Extended partition (32 MB) for Linux Boot.
> MacOS Extended partition (232 MB) + Mac OS 9.0 installed.
cq. linuxrc gives :
swap partition : /dev/hda7 (98304 blocks).
"do not partition" (hard drives) (allready did this: DriveSetUp OS 9 mac).
CREATING FILESYSTEMS shows :
hda6 1732608 4096 no ext2 Apple_UNIX_SVR
hda8 32768 no hfs Apple_HFS
hda9 236379 no hfs Apple_HFS
hda10 5 2048 no ext2 Apple_Free
Than I selected the hda6 to set the mountpoint " / " (root) at the hda6
partition,
>>> BUT when I pressed enter to mount this, I got the following error message :
MOUNT ERROR
An error occurred mounting the filesystem of partition "/dev/hda8" to the
directory "/mnt".
Here is the error message of the "mount" command: wrong fs type, bad option,
bad superblock on /dev/hda8, or too many mounted file systems.
I could choose "repeat again", which I did and the same message appeared
again.
(I can only choose "abort" now)
I even re-partitioned my entire HDD with Drive SetUp and changed the order
of the partitions, but I keep getting the same errors at this stage.
WHAT can I do now to try to install this Linux at my old mac ?
Thanks for any help ;-)
