where's the 2nd and 3rd button?

Hi folks! Can anyone please tell me, which keys I have to press to emulate the 2nd/3rd mouse-button? I somehow changed that on my old PowerBook and now that I got a new one I can't find the config file anymore where I have to set this... Trouble recognizing IDE drive in a G3.

I have a Rev A. Beige G3 Mac (Rev A. is the one that would only support Masters on the IDE busses) on which I am attempting to install Suse-PPC. I have the Apple OEM Ultra-Wide SCSI card connected to a 4.5GB SCSI drive (this is my main system drive), and I added a 9GB IDE (ST13940A) drive. The IDE drive is the Master on IDE Bus 0 (CD-ROM is Master on IDE bus 1). I want to install Linux on the IDE drive. I have divided the IDE drive into 4 partitions: 4.2GB HFS partition (for regular Mac stuff) 32MB HFS partition (the Boot partition the install manual instructs me to create) 128Mb swap partition 4GB A/UX Root partition If I boot into MacOS then launch BootX and then Linux, the IDE drive is never recognized. It doesn't matter if I boot into MacOS from the IDE or the SCSI drive. I also swapped the CDROM and IDE drive busses - still didn't work. The only way I have been able to get the Linux kernel (2.2.14) to see the IDE drive is by performing the following: Copy the following files from CD #1/suseboot to the small (32MB) HFS volume that is on the IDE drive: 'Finder' 'System' 'ramdisk.image.gz' 'vmlinux' I then select that volume as the boot disk using the MacOS Control Panel 'Startup Disk' and then restart. This causes the initial happy mac icon to be replaced with a "penguin sitting beside a mac" icon and the kernel boots and recognizes the IDE drive, and takes me into the installer. There are two problems with this approach: 1st, I can't easily boot back into MacOS, I have to zap PRAM to get back to MacOS; 2nd, I don't know how to specify the real boot partition (/dev/hda10) instead of the ramdisk image that contains the installer. I've tried kernel 2.2.16 from Bootx, but this locks up before the Penguin appears. I see the welcome to kernel 2.2.16 message followed by some address info, followed by booting... followed by some more information, then everything just stops with the last line being: Console: colour dummy device 80x25 Does anyone have any ideas or experience on getting Suse to install on an IDE drive on a Rev A Beige G3 Mac with the OEM SCSI Drive? How about on a Rev C.? I found a place that has upgrade ROMs for the IDE controllers that basically upgrades them to be a Rev C. so Master and Slave are supported - maybe there were other fixes also. Xpmac

Hi ! I'm using Suse 6.4 on an G3-Mac. I've tried to use Xpmac instead of XF86_fbdev, which really seems faster to me. But with Xpmac I´ve got no german "umlaut"-Keys etc. as I have with my config when I'm using the fbdev-XServer. Is there a solution for this problem ? Thomas Bruns

Helix GNOME

Anyone have any luck getting Helix GNOME working? I did the manual installation of the LinuxPPC rpms and had to change the /etc/pam.d/gdm file back to it's original state to login, but it is still not acting right. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

KDE 2 final beta - any good experiences?

I got all the packages and installed them but I can't really get KDE 2 to run in any real way - I can get it to run as a crippled unhappy subprocesses of KDE 1.x. I tried to do the "how to have KDE and KDE2 happily coexists" but when I tried to find the path to my QT library I was thwarted. A tiny paranoid part of me wonders if QT is not in the KDE 2 packages - that doesn't make much sense. Bemerkungen zur 6.4 PPC

Hallo Leute, ich habe ein paar Anmerkungen zur SuSE 6.4 PPC: Solltet ihr einen iMac der letzten Revision (also nicht der aktuellen) haben, also der ersten Version mit Slot Loading CD-ROM / DVD (iMac, iMac DV, iMac DV SE), dann solltet ihr DRINGEND die Firmware 2.4 von Apple einspielen. Die alte Firmware hat naemlich definitiv unangenehme Bugs im USB-Support. Der os-chooser tut's zumindest auf meinem iMac DV auch nicht, Der direkte Start aus der OpenFirmware funktioniert dagegen einwandfrei, weil wenigstens der yaboot einwandfrei funktioniert. Die Geschwindigkeit des X-Servers (und damit der Grafik) ist nicht berauschend, denn der X-Server mit spezieller ATI Rage 128 Unterstuetzung laeuft nicht. Stattdessen wird ein Kompatibilitaetsmodus verwendet, der die Faehigkeiten dieses Chips nicht ausschoepft. Allerdings ist dieser X-Server trotzdem stabil. Ansonsten gibt's eigentlich kaum Probleme mit dieser ersten Release. D.h. dass es praktisch keine Abstuerze gibt. invalid ELF image

Hi everyone- I just installed Suse Linux for ppc on my iBook special edition and have setup openfirmware to boot YaBoot and I am having a problem when i try to run linux from yaboot i get a message saying invalid ELF image. Can anyone help me? thanks. Todd p.s. I have an iBook and do i have to type boot video=ofonly

SaX

Hello, To configure XF86 so that I can use the wheel of my Logitech mouse, I recently discovered I could do it with SaX (I say discover because there is not a word about this X configuration utility in the 6.4 for ppc manual !! -- and I'm new to the SuSE world). Problem: SaX does not work properly on my G4. As soon as it is started, my keyboard and my mouse are completely screwed up (as someone mentioned on this list). So I tried sax -f startup so as to force it to run on the startup X server. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's not. But even when I can use mouse and keyboard, it seems the saved XF86Config file is overwritten by xsfb at boot time so modifications are lost. Apparently there is a new version of xsfb with an option to avoid creating XF86Config at boot. I haven't looked at it yet. Does anyone know if the people at SuSE plan on releasing a new -- and working -- version of SaX soon? Has anyone experience with XF86 4.0.1 and SaX2? Is it any better?
