Hi to all.
I have a QDI motherboard with VIA chipset. I have a terrible problem with SuSE 9.0 Pro. Although it recognizes my sound chipset as VIA 82xx AC97 codec, it doesnt play any sound ! Not in KDE, not in the CLI, not even with mpg123... I also get some strange kernel messages about ALSA, in the logs. The funny stuff is that i had to change my kernel to the one shipped with SuSE 8.2 and it happily plays sound.
Does anyone has the same problem ?
Thanks.

Yep, had the same problem, which appears to be tied up with the pcm module. You will find it will play sound from mic and the line inputs.
I sent a report to SuSE on this and then installed another sound card which I had sitting around.
I have not tried using the VIA 82xx with the updated kernel which was installed the other day.
Hello, how are you ? I hope fine. Have you tried this page ? http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2

http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?action=find&find=VIA82xx Revise which chipset has you, and configure it. You can find the chipset with the command scanpci. Or download the latest driver from alsa, compile it and install.
