Discussions from oSC24 Branding workshop

Hi all, For those not at the openSUSE Conference yesterday we had a marketing brainstorming session. The full notes are at https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/oSC24branding One of the things we discussed was going back to using this list as the primary place for discussion of marketing branding issues. With that in mind below I will post the full discussion feel free to split out parts and reply to them in order to continue the discussion. There are also some github issues mentioned if discussion does move there for certain issues (such as the website) it would be great to post a heads up here as well so the wider group is aware. === Feedback from the naming talk / discussion === Struggle to keep people in a marketing team. Users are there for specific reasons "Using openSUSE" has to many meanings Messaging about contributions should be clear An opportunity with 20 years and using that to distinguish ourselves further Have the opportunity to establish the identity in a more of a self-identity Create as a positive message Nothing is changing in within these seperate projects "We are a project from this "umbrella" project" Explore the scope a bit. Repeated overhead/tasks might not be in the interests of the project. I.E. - Repeating websites, some other items Trying to communicate the diffentciation better - how do they coincide with one another Clear messaging Consistency Changing the brands of the distributions (if the project's name is changed) could be the time to do it. At the same time given the other changes we shouldn't try and rename tumbleweed / leap etc otherwise we will loose all recognition The board will help initiate the discussions going forward working with SUSE. === How do we build a new community around branding? === * We don't have enough people can we make this clearer * We should elevate someone who does artwork to the same level as say a package manantainer * Can we find social media managers again? * Run a call for members again focused on non code contributions, now that officials and rules have changed (Board Todo). * We should highlight active members to all parts of our community, (Board, create a starting list of people to highlight), can we federate it out and get people to do it. AI. Tobias Görgens * Big badge on the website for doing XYZ * Create a marketing team wiki page or fix (https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Marketing_team) https://de.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Marketing_Team === Other topics === Wiki clean up sprint. Add / Create / Publisise schedule on some form of callender. So that we know when to start working on flyers.
