[opensuse-marketing] news.o.o team
Hi all! I bet most of you have heard of this website, news.opensuse.org. Sometimes people post random vaguely openSUSE-related stuff there. Now I thought it would be fun to create a team around that - work a bit more structured :D People with the rights to post there now post whatever they like, whenever they like. Not that that is always a bad thing, but having a little more oversight to guarantee quality and timing would be good (eg 3 articles on one day then nothing for 3 days sucks; and sometimes there is some Germanglish in there too). It ain't hard - if you are currently writing there every now and then you want to be on the team. If you are willing and able to edit posts every now and then - you want to be on the team. If you want to WRITE for news, you don't HAVE to be on the team - you can just submit stuff and the editors will edit and publish it. So who's up for this? And I expect AJ and Henne at the very least to volunteer, Sascha, you too :D I'm going for everyone who has contributed a lot of stories to News.o.o to be on the team. Or those who can and want to write... So Helen? You! Cheers, Jos
Nice to have you back Jos.

/me looks at the ground and shuffles feet... hmm... writing "news" suggests that one knows what is going on :) I'll see if there's something I can contribute on a more regular basis. Feel free to make suggestions. I'm happy to edit, or fill out/ghost write brief notes about people's projects etc. Just curious, do we have any site metrics at all? cheers Helen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Thanks, we ask regularly here on the list to write announcements and speak about events - a contribution here is welcome. Jos spoke about two items - contributing articles and editing and scheduling, thanks for volunteering for the first one, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Program Manager openSUSE, aj@{novell.com,opensuse.org} Twitter: jaegerandi | Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Jos,
I will see if I can come up with some thing from time to time.
Girl, Dude, Please note that being an editor means not writing but editing ;-) Of course sometimes the editor team can try and get ppl to write, reach out, be pro-active. And sometimes people send in articles that need quite some heavy editing. Still, the original content doesn't have to come from the news editors - even thouh it's nice if they write sometimes too :D Thank for volunteering ;-)

Okay this sounds good. Should we have a separate mailing list (is there one already?) for the news team for general discussion so that Marketing list isn't getting flooded? Another possiblity is using Google Docs or PiratePad (I like the latter's workspace, though it's buggy and I have some issues about privacy, but news is a public document anyway.) Can we create a page with team member names, email address and timezone? This is my first time doing collaborative work like this (my website I do my own thing from start to finish), so to begin with might need a bit of guidance from a more experienced team person to ensure we are all on the same page. Right now thinking "um.. where do I start?" And just to be clear, this is a separate endeavour to openSUSE Weekly News? http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Weekly_news_team cheers, Helen PS don't forget to vote up Etherpad https://features.opensuse.org/310652 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Since most people might consider news on news.o.o *official* news from openSUSE project, articles there shouldn't be *personal* views or opinions (I think lizards.o.o is the place for them). So I can agree that every post to news.o.o will be reviewed by editors team before it will be published. For this purpose, editors team should include the persons who are ... a) familiar with what's going on in our project and comminity. b) good at English, so that somehow bad English can be corrected before publishing. I expect many persons can be a), but for b), we need help from native English speakers. Besides, what I have in my mind recently is, creating sub-domains of news.o.o for each language, like ja.news.o.o or news.o.o/de, where we can publish the translations of news on new.o.o. ATM, only few language version of Weekly News are available. But news on news.o.o are usually very important for everyone who uses or is interested in openSUSE, regardless of whether or not (s)he is good at reading English. Wiki is not a good place to publish such kind of translated articles and we need the better place for them. Is it possible to create such sub-domains?
