I was asked about exceptions regarding access, so I figure it's best to write it here so we are all on the same page. Liking "technical" or "open-source related" tweets and/or retweeting them are encouraged. If you want to come up with a post, that is fine. If it's technical, that is great. Tweets about the project, answering questions and pointing people to the right resources is really the overall goal; i.e. helping them to help others and the project. Also, posting in other languages is fine. We want to avoid engaging with negative tweets. Negative meaning disrespectful or trolling. That's not to say we shouldn't respond given the correct circumstances; it just depends on the situation. If someone is frustrated and you can help, please feel free. If someone is complaining, it's recommended to avoid adding fuel to the fire (making it worse). Unless you can provide something meaningful, positive or an actionable tweet to the conversation. If you feel like you are uncertain about something you want to tweet, ping it off the marketing group. (this email account) I will note that the account is not meant to be used for any political posting. Also during openSUSE board elections, there shouldn't be any favoritism toward liking one candidates post over another. I think a basic rule we can all live by is "do I believe this tweet, retweet, etc. is representative and accepted by many in the project." The intention here is not to be restrictive but just to point out some basic rules we as a group want to follow. If you have any questions on the topic, please reply to the mailing list here. If anyone wants to add something you think we should also emphasize, please mention it. v/r Doug

[groundrules]
I've added those to this wiki: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Twitter_team and linked it from https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Social_media_contacts I would also like us to clarify what this "principle" means:
I will note that the account is not meant to be used for any political posting. Everything is political. The absence of politics is also political.
I would like to propose to strike this principle completely. What we consider related and what we do not is already covered in the initial principle. Henne -- Henne Vogelsang http://www.opensuse.org Everybody has a plan, until they get hit. - Mike Tyson

What are your thoughts on replying or posting non-English tweets? I mean people having access and who can respond to those tweets. It might be cool to see @openSUSE engaging in हिंदी or Bahasa Indonesia, or other languages from time to time, if we have more volunteers. Regards, Ish Sookun

I hope all is well. Many social media sights seem to be translating posts into the viewers local language. That being stated, the tools don't always translate perfectly. Here are the thoughts on posting non-English. We need to figure out a balance between posting in English as the majority of posts with the occasional non-English post. I think doing posts in different languages is good as it does represent the project. I would say a 2-1 ratio might be good. For every post done in a different language, two posts in English would be good. Maybe even a 1-for-1. That's just my view and I would certainly like to hear a different point of view if anyone wants to chime in. As for replying to a non-English tweet, if we can reply in the non-English language, we should do so. We don't want to take away from the local community accounts as they should be the primary. Maybe tagging the local community accounts in replies would help reinforce that idea. v/r Doug

Occasional is the thing. Mixed language accounts have shown to not be as successful engaging people. We also already have tons of language accounts¹ My take: Seldomly post, replying if possible, but everything else should happen on language accounts.
